Just as Alix Madsen is finishing up architectural school, Adelaide Kingsley dies and wills her, for one year, the use of a charming 19th-century Nantucket house. The elderly woman's relationship to the Madsen family is a mystery to the spirited Alix - fresh from a romantic breakup - but for reasons of her own, Alix accepts the quirky bequest, in part because it gives her time to plan her best friend's storybook wedding.

Kate Powell had been orphaned at an early age, when she had, essentially, watched her parents die. Her family had been taken away, but she had been given another. The distant kinship didn't matter to Thomas and Susan Templeton. They had taken her in, raised her as their own, given her a home and love. And now, 20 years later, she has learned the truth from a colleague of her father.

Sugar Legowski-Gracia wasn't always fat, but fat is what she is now at age seventeen. Not as fat as her mama, who is so big she hasn't gotten out of bed in months. Not as heavy as her brother, Skunk, who has more meanness in him than fat, which is saying something. But she's large enough to be the object of ridicule wherever she is: at the grocery store, walking down the street, at school. Sugar's life is dictated by taking care of Mama in their run-down home - cooking, shopping, and, well, eating.

Very well written and spoken. Not a minute of boredom. We all need to be reminded that everyone has feelings and there are reasons behind all actions.
I pray that all the Sugars out there will find their place and value in their lives.

I was very impressed by the dedication and motivation of the author. He gave advice on how to successfully live your life, get along with coworkers and or run a business. It was very obvious that he has Christian standards in his life and believes that living by them will give you the best life possible. A great read for anyone in business or in the work field.
