Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

I would recommened this audiobook because it is a truly practical guide that can help you change the way you sleep in just a couple of hours.

What did you like best about this story?

I liked that the explanantions were practical and things one can easily do without too much fuss. I have been able to get better sleep simply by changing the type of music I listen to in bed, getting rid of tablets and other sources of blue light and getting an e-Book reader with e-ink instead.

This audiobook also liked up to its title and was concise in its instructions and explanantions. It is also short enough to run through during a trip or a daily commute. The narrator was also very clear and easy to listen to even if you put the speed at 1.5X which I'll admit I do at times when I want to get through a chapter quickly.

Any additional comments?

As the name implies, this is one of the best books I’ve read about insomnia. Rarely have I seen a book take the time to go through each and every aspect of insomnia like the author did and I learnt a lot. Did you even know that sleeping on your side helps you to avoid neurological issues, back pain and snoring? I also now know that lying on my stomach is the reason why I wake up feeling uncomfortable sometimes. It’s nice to finally know why instead of thinking I just woke up on the ‘wrong side of the bed’.

I also learnt how to improve my sleeping hygiene. Thick socks before bed, lighter ones just before I go to sleep. Heated sheets should be turned off before sleeping to avoid issues. I will also pay more attention to the fabric my pajamas are made of when next I’m buying one. Another thing I will consider from the book is using wake-up sunlight alarm clocks instead of the regular noisy ones.

A new thing that I learnt is how to relax right before going to be. One of the relaxation techniques that I found out about is yoga (which I tried for a while and got too busy to try, definitely giving it another shot), I think I didn’t find a comfortable pose for myself and thanks to the book, I have more options now and know how to find the most soothing. Guided meditation is also something I will also give a shot it is also easy to do and can help me relax without referring to medication.

I have been using these methods for a week now and I hope to see even more improvements in my sleeping habits.

Packing lunch boxes from home made items is also making my mornings a bit less hectic than it used to be

What was one of the most memorable moments of Waste Free Kitchen?

The cinnamon pancake recipe from the last chapter is a winner with my family. It is now part of our meal plan. The rice and beans recipe is also very popular

What about Sharon Wilkinson’s performance did you like?

It was very heartwarming. I especially loved the delivery of the top tips.

What insight do you think you’ll apply from Waste Free Kitchen?

What made the experience of listening to Social Anxiety the most enjoyable?

Social anxiety is a big problem nowadays given that as the book rightly said, a lot of people suffer from anxiety, fear of being misunderstood and self-confidence issues. It makes everyday life more difficult than it is meant to be. The book was very enjoyable because it approached the subject systematically, from the causes, to solutions to difficult situations.

What did you like best about this story?

I like the way the book address the causes and effects of anxiety attacks as relates to their social life. This book helped me understand my anxiety issues better and gave practical advice on how to deal with it. It also offered practical solutions to help improve self-esteem and confidence.

What did you learn from Social Anxiety that you would use in your daily life?

The one advice I found most effective was talking myself down when a panic is trying to win myself over. I just try to relax, control my mind and myself several questions that would help me calm down. I also learnt to come to terms with the things I don’t like about myself and I found out these were just me being too hard on myself.

Another tip I found very helpful was rehearsing upcoming conversations before meetings I am not looking forward to. From that, I get a bit more relaxed and less anxious about the coming meetings. This has also helped me be a better conversationalist. By being mentally prepared for a conversation, I’m less likely to feel like I don’t fit in or doing something wrong. I guess not every time.

Any additional comments?

It is a well-written book with real-life advice, case studies and proven ways of dealing with shyness and social anxiety. I found the case studies very helpful as these were situation I had sometimes found myself involved in.

I would recommend this book to anybody in a heartbeat who wants to learn more how to cope with an introverted temperament. The audiobook helped me become a better version of myself and is a bargain for the price. Very easy to read and understand, simple realistic case studies you can relate to and learn from and most of all, practical solutions to real-life problems.

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Yes I would recommend it to my friends. A lot of them are so busy they forget to give time to family and other important things. Money is not everything and this book is a timely reminder about learning to understand what is urgent and what is important.

What’s an idea from the book that you will remember?

Keeping a weekly and daily planner and assigning personal time. To-do lists usually have my work related stuff, now I add little fun things for myself and I find that I look forward to these a lot and feel refreshed after. That's what I like the most about the book, there are so many tips for effective time management that you can choose what has the best impact for you.

Any additional comments?

I had a great time reading this book. It spoke a lot about how to plan your time. Not necessarily planning time just to do activities, more like using one’s time to improve one’s life as a whole. By being able to differentiate between urgent and important sometimes is the difference between feeling fulfilled and feeling burnt out.

The book also had a lot of tips which I found very useful. It changed the way I relate to my daily planner. Now I set aside time for myself. It all used to be just about work and tasks. Having a daily do-nothing hour is a nice addition which I am enjoying at the moment. I definitely feel better seeing my activity planner filled with more greens than reds. The length of the book was also ideal, just long enough to cover all the important thing without being in a hurry.

Overall a very good book that actually makes a difference to the way you live your life.

Would you listen to How to Talk to Anyone again? Why?

I’m not a shy person but I don’t enjoy prolonged conversations. I learned more about why my conversational style sometimes rub people the wrong way. I guess I need to be more open to other people’s ideas and try not to always moderate conversations. People tend to react positively to empathy, I’m more likely to point out what you did wrong than tell you sorry. I haven’t gotten the hang of it but I think now if I’m not sure how to respond, I just stay quiet. I guess saying nothing beats saying the wrong thing.

What insight do you think you’ll apply from How to Talk to Anyone?

Practicing reading body language with the TV on mute. It felt like learning to walk around blindfolded. It already improved my manner of approach when I have a few minutes to observe a potential client from a distance. I at least have a rough idea of their moods and this also allows me decide the best way to talk to them.

Have you listened to any of Sorrel Brigman’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

No. I love the way the author punctuated every major point with a quote from a notable personality though.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

The section about staying in the moment is one I found very helpful. I tend to worry about things I can’t control and try to achieve perfection. You cannot control everything and it’s ok. Also, the book also stressed the importance of living for yourself, being yourself and keeping away from comparing yourself to other. I used to embarrass my best friend through high school without meaning to because her parents kept comparing us and judging her based on the things I did. I felt guilty for making her feel bad and it caused a few awkward moments.

Any additional comments?

I remember the first time I had to do a public debate. It was for a French class. Even though I was well prepared, I got on stage and froze up. I didn’t stop feeling embarrassed subconsciously till I gave a valedictorian speech and got a standing ovation. A significant change in temperament occurred because every time I was worried about facing a crowd, I found myself replaying the French debacle repeatedly. Until I came full circle with another awesome speech, I didn’t have a new image to replay. The book was very right in that until we identified the underlying thoughts behind our worries and embarrassments, we would keep dwelling in the past.

I’m my own worst critic. Even when everyone says I did a good job, I can’t stop myself from feeling like I could have done better. I appreciate that the author took time to break down these real-life situations and helped me better understand that I am master of my own destiny and the future is less scary when we let go of the past and stop regretting our decisions.

Who we are is the product of all our decisions, both good and bad and until you let go of clichés and socially acceptable concepts, then can you fulfil your own potential without the burdens of worry, embarrassment and regret holding you back.

This is a very helpful and practical guide for dealing with serious issues that bothers most people. I wholly recommend it to everyone.

Instinctively she dropped her chin, stealing her gaze away from his eyes and letting them rest closer to his waist. "None of that," he said, taking her hands firmly and placing them at her sides. Then he reached down and undid the button of her jeans. He unzipped them. Alex breathed in sharply, feeling herself getting instantly excited by the brush of his hand on her stomach.

Would you listen to Arthritis: Escape the Pain again? Why?

Yes I would. There is a lot to learn from. Even though I took notes while reading, I would like to listen to the book again to better understand some of the tips described. Like the author said, everyone needs to identify his or her own body and its unique triggers before examining which tips yield the best results for him. There’s enough to go around for everyone of all ages looking for some relief from the pains of arthritis.

What did you learn from Arthritis: Escape the Pain that you would use in your daily life?

Dealing with a family member with arthritis gave me a direct view into the life of sufferers from the disease. Helping them do things when they have flare ups is very important and managing the pain is a daily struggle. The book stresses the most important thing by saying that natural treatments may not have immediate effects and these may also differ from person to person.

In my own case, my aunt wasn’t the type that wanted to exercise so walking for about 20 minutes helped. Also after keeping a diary for about two months, we could identify that she always got her worst flare ups when the weather was cold. Keeping warm was easy in the summer, during the winter, what helped the most was getting good sleep. By switching her mattress from hard foam to memory foam with goose down pillows, her quality of sleep improved. Better sleep meant better rest for her joint and therefore less pain.

You see, sometimes all it just takes is forming good habits that helps you take better care of your body and that’s what the book is all about. A practical guide to managing and reducing the effects of arthritis from someone who successfully achieved good results from forming good habits.

The emotional and logistics support which the book talked about are also very important. By replacing a bath tub with a walk-in shower, we reduced the risk of falling in the bathroom. Swapping out tiles for a wool shaggy rug also made sure the floors were warmer and softer to touch, less jarring when she walked equals less pain. People living with OA also need us to be rays of sunshine in their lives.

The importance of eating healthy cannot be overstated. Omega-3 and magnesium supplements are also important because of their natural anti-inflammatory properties. Combined with vegetables such as broccoli, bok choy, cauliflower and cabbage, the body immune system is stronger and better equipped to deal with flare ups and maintain a better state of wellbeing.

The book also recommends maintaining a balance between resting too much and exercising too much. I think in this case, finding activities that ensure mobility without undue aggravation is important. In my aunt’s case, it was helping the kids get ready for school in the morning. About an hour of making lunch boxes, going over assignments and dressing them up for school helped her stay loose without over-exerting her joints.

In conclusion, the book stresses the importance of following the doctor’s advice religiously, taking care of what one eats, knowing and respecting one’s body and also keeping a positive disposition as a natural way of managing arthritis. Practical advice from someone who knows exactly what they’re talking about

Any additional comments?

The book has made more informed about helping arthritis sufferers and being a better provider of emotional support. I think most arthritis sufferers need us to be more empathetic of their plight but more importantly be able to practically assist them to live better lives. Not just by taking them for doctors’ appointments but being a supportive part of their lives.

Some people need a walking or exercise partner more than they need a shoulder to cry on. The book has made me better understand arthritis and how to manage it if I ever find myself suffering in the future or have a loved one suffering from it.

Sex and emotions: a dangerous combination. Beware of what you wish for; it might just come true. Just a few moments earlier she had listened as Sir got dressed. She had never been blindfolded before. Each time he stopped touching her and walked around the room mysteriously she anticipated where she would feel him next. What did you love best about Her Secret Submission?

Wow! My ears hurt from listening to this book for the last 5 hours! Such an enthralling story of a young woman who finds fulfillment in the most unconventional of relationships. I must confess I was skeptical about reading an erotica book but who looks gift horse in the mouth these days? Anyway, I absolutely loved the story line. Even from the early part of the story, one could tell that Alex was never in love with Jackson in a primal sort of way. She may have been content with him but never truly satisfied. It was endearing how she became liberated, bolder and transformed from the “Office Cinderella” to a sexy princess in the right mix of emotions.

I felt so bad for her as she pinned for “Sir” while he wasn’t there (obviously, he was trying hard not to get too attached to Alex). I also felt sorry for Jackson who even though he tried to be all he could, he just was never enough for Alex. Alex’s best friend Fiona was also a very wonderful character. We wish for best friends who will be there to break rules with us and slap us when we’re being silly.

It was a very well written story about complex emotions, a sensual unusual type of romance and very well-developed characters. This isn’t your average erotic novel about ropes and handcuff, this is a story of a woman who found romance in the most unusual of places. I cannot wait to start on the second book in the series. The last chapter was so dramatic that it was almost a let-down when it ended.

What did you like best about this story?

I liked that it balanced the erotic genre with a proper story, a lot of that has been missing lately as authors churn out poorly researched clones of Fifty Shades. There was a building to the storyline that ended in a cliffhanger that leaves you wondering what going to happen next.

You also get so drawn into the characters that you find yourself wondering how it would feel like being in those circumstances. Who wouldn’t love to be discover their secret Master was one of the richest men in the world, give me a penthouse any day!

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Yes! I would definitely listen to this book again, especially the last few chapters as Alex struggled to balance her feelings for Sir with her relationships with Fiona and Jackson. It’s also a welcome departure from the usual type of stories I’ve been used to in this genre.

Any additional comments?
