That culminated into a long ugly cry for me! It was great but the reality of the zombie apocalypse kicked in and I had to fave my literary fears, and lose a few from this series. I’m not sure I’ll recover but I guess it’s on to the next installment! Well done but I’m not a happy camper!

This novel is the perfect set up for an awesome new series. It held my attention and made stopping the story for you know, life difficult. The writing was expressive without alienating a civilian like me. The narration, with anything Mark Gagliardi lends his voice to, was spot on. He brings this story to life in a way that just reading the book by myself could never accomplish. Great start and I’m just lucky enough to finish book 1 when book 2 is now available on Audio!!!!

I went to this with no expectations. I didn't garner much from the story description, so it was fresh ears. I fumbled along the way a bit confused about what was going on. But I stayed with the story and it unfollowed like a flower. I found this story to be quite intriguing and well worth the 8 hour listen. Definitely unusual but in a most enjoying and satisfying way. Would have liked to explore the technology more but I guess that leaves the door open for more to come...at least I hope so!

Would you try another book from Peter Meredith and/or Basil Sands?

No! I think I am done and I hope Audible will give me a refund. This wasn't worth my credit. It seemed like a good premise but it went sideways into a world I would never claim.

Would you ever listen to anything by Peter Meredith again?

I see that "a good number" of you liked the book however I think I am all set. If I want to feel the stress of being a woman I will look at my paycheck and see that I am paid less than my male counterparts. I agree with the previous posts this book was just too rape-y for me.

How could the performance have been better?

The narrator didn't seem to like the words either. His delivery was like listening to the "Dry Eyes" guy at times. I wanted to jump through my phone to give him a Red Bull. I think the story bored him to tears. Often I could hear a weird character in his voice that was off putting.

You didn’t love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?

The beginning seemed to build toward something great and this it turned into a female version of Oz and not the Oz with Dorothy or Toto.

Any additional comments?

I really tried to get through this book but I didn't make it very far. Anytime you read a book and you think all the characters would be better as zombie poo, then it's time to stop reading or listening in this case. This book was a disappointment and I went into it without any information. The opening was a bit jarring to say the least but it intrigued me enough to start the story. I can appreciate the breakdown of society in a good zombie book. I don't believe that in less than a few days men would resort to raping. I think that we would still hold on to some of our humanity for a little longer than a few days. The book was unrealistic in how women would just put up a short verbal defense (or clutching pearls with indignation) before giving in to rape. This book focused on it so much I felt violated. I also think it would take a hell of a lot more threats to make a heterosexual woman immediately engage in sexual activities with another woman. I don't think that women would go so willingly into that good night. The men in their lives would have protected them or they would have protected themselves. Oh and his army was all male as it didn't seem like a female made the cut. I didn't listen long enough to know if there was a female in the army. I think she would have been immediately raped as well. The author clearly has an entire world in his head that he really really really wanted to put on paper and then hide behind a creative license. As I black woman I haven't used the term "colored" nor does my 60 year old mother, so that made no sense either. I like when Ebonics is used to accurately capture the persona of African American characters but I do not like it treated as a cool novelty. The female in this story clearly never ever spoke with another human being that could annunciate. It doesn't consume our speech. I think this book was written for a specific reader and those readers gave it a multitude of stars. I guess it's comforting to PM that he has a fan base and a review such as this one should be no skin off his back. I just hope that if the zombie apocalypse does happen he doesn't live anywhere near my neck of the woods. I plan on defending myself and those I love but not while on my knees.

I was given this book for an honest listen and I was not disappointed. If you are looking for a hip metaphorical listen with plenty of humor and pop culture references then you have found it. I was pleasantly surprised, as was my husband, how many times I laughed out loud. I listen to plenty of audiobooks and I feel a bit like a connoisseur. This was perfectly done, narration was great but the storyline was unique. I look forward to the next installment and behoove you, reading the reviews to go ahead and snag a copy.

Wow! The last two books had me screaming out loud as I listened. Anytime you get that involved with a book it has to be good. I'm a neat bow type of person. With thy being said the bow doesn't have to be perfect but I do like resolution. You get a monumental amount of resolution in this book. Although things don't always go so great for our heroes it's good to have temporary finality. I'm in love with this series and have become a definite fan of the author. After listening to Hell Divers audible recommended this series, worth the listen. Thanks for the drama, the intrigue, the fear, and the love. Great series!! Now on to the next one!!

What a pleasant surprise. As a nurse I saw a lot of myself in the main character. She was funny and tough, qualities I can appreciate. I had never heard of this author but audible recommended so I took a chance. Really glad I did!! Looking forward to the next installment.
