Characters were relatable, storyline a bit out of reach but what are beach reads for? Banter was quick witted however the narrator was a little slow. Recommended for readers of Mary Kay Andrews.

Good story, chuckled in a few spots, but most assuredly not hilarious. Of course heroine finds true love right under her nose.

I really didn't mind the narrator, and not that book was poorly written, but I found it hard to like anything about the story or characters. Once the problems of each character were revealed, I skipped to the last 10 chapters to see how they were resolved. I don't think I missed much.

I listened to the beginning few chapters and was intrigued. But the graphic violence took over the story and I found it repulsive. Wish I had read more reviews.

Started off fun, even a little silly, which I expected. Then a plot twist and it turned out to be a great story with real depth.

I strongly recommend this book be read rather than played. The chapters skip back and forth to various decades and it was very hard to keep track, especially if you only listen to a few chapters a day like I did. I'm playing it again so I can catch some of the details that I missed the first time. Overall the story was interesting and well-written, but I wanted it told in chronological order. I've read all of Lutz's other books and found them hilarious. This book is not funny.

Background music in an audiobook? This was a first. Beautiful story by Jackson, well ready by Taber, made goofy by dramatic music.

Back to the book - Searching for a new author I stumbled upon Gods in Alabama and Jackson. I was reeled in from the start and sometimes felt manipulated by the story line just as the characters were jerked around by the main character. The story is about Arlene who leaves behind her southern roots, painful past, and loony family for Chicago and a life in academia. Even though she keeps rigid weekly contact with her Aunt Flo - she feels only obligation and no affection for the family she left 10 years before. Her past smacks into the present and the retelling of it makes these crazy people very loveable.

I recommend this book to any chick-lit reader and recommend the publishers re-record it without the music.

Stephanie is the quirky friend I've loved for many years. But her stories seem to get shorter and the funny stuff is getting a bit worn. Let's ask Janet E. if she could take two years off and get us a great juicy plot that's a 12 hour read. New jokes, some old characters and some new characters mixed in. Who is with me?
