Victorian adventuress Veronica Speedwell is whisked off to a remote island off the tip of Cornwall when her natural historian colleague Stoker's brother calls in a favor. On the pretext of wanting a companion to accompany him to Lord Malcolm Romilly's house party, Tiberius persuades Veronica to pose as his fiancée. But upon arriving, it becomes clear that the party is not as innocent as it had seemed. Every invited guest has a connection to Romilly's wife, Rosamund, who disappeared on her wedding day three years ago, and a dramatic dinner proves she is very much on her husband's mind.

All I can say is I'm glad it was free. Barely making it through the book, I'm not invested at all in finding out what happens to anyone. The narrators somewhat cheery, but somehow still monotone, narration doesn't really make me wan to listen to it either.

I will try the next book to see if both story and narrator can make me want to finish it.

To begin with, the narrator has an awesome voice. Just not for this kind of story. He sounds like he’s reading an owner manual, which I have to admit had me in tears(from laughing) most of the book.

Decent story, but not very smooth. HOWEVER, it is the first one,and despite the narrator, I will be getting the next book, because who knows both(writing and narrator) may improve.

Narration is HORRIBLE!! He has a wonderful voice but he reads like he’s running off a grocery list. Like the teacher from Ferris Bueller. Nothing at all sexy about it. He narrates the remainder of the series so I’m going to have rest in books.

To think I almost didn’t buy it.

Valerius isn't a popular Dark-Hunter - he's a Roman, which means that the largely Greek Hunters have a major grudge against him and his civilization for superceding them. So it serves him right when he runs into Tabitha Devereaux. She's sassy, sexy, and completely unwilling to take him seriously. (Not to mention that she's the twin sister of the wife of former Dark-Hunter Kyrian - Val's mortal enemy.) What Tabitha does take seriously is hunting and killing vampires....

Ok, I honestly have tried, but I can't do it anymore. The 'new' narrator is better than the last except for the fact that he keeps using he, him, his, he's for females and vice versa for males. Not to mention that fact that he kept pronouncing Agrippina in correctly. Worst part about that one is that there are two ways to pronounce it and he managed to come up with something else.

Considering he narrates the majority of the remainder of the series I more than likely won't be finishing it. However, if that won't bother you this is the series for you. Descent story lines, characters can get a bit whiney, and far more into themselves than you want them to be sometimes, but it's not bad.

Bride McTierney has had it with men. They're cheap, self-centered, and never love her for who she is. But though she prides herself on being independent, deep down, she still yearns for a knight in shining armor. She just never expected her knight in shining armor to have a shiny coat of fur.

I'm not exactly sure what it was about this book, or the book before this one, but there's something off with it. Though I listen to more of this one than the previous, I skipped through more than half of the previous one☹️, I just could not feel either one.

Strangely enough I actually would recommend it. I just think that, though I'm into the storyline, I'm just not in the mood for this particular genre. Planning on reading it agin in the fall.

Ms. Hunter please write faster. I know that's not possible because it takes time to produce good work, so I'm trying to wait patiently for the next book in not only this series but the Jane Yellowrock series.
