Ever since being stuck with the job of pythia, the chief seer of the supernatural world, Cassie Palmer has been playing catch up. Catch up to the lifetime's worth of training she missed being raised by a psychotic vampire instead of at the fabled pythian court. Catch up to the powerful, and sometimes seductive, forces trying to mold her to their will. It's been a trial by fire that has left her more than a little burned. But now she realizes that all that was just the warm up for the real race.

The story was good, the reader was terrific. The engineering was what messed it up. A couple of places had sentence repeats, but even worse were the places that sounded stretched or scratched. That was annoying and difficult to understand.

The book relied too heavily on sex to make up for the lack of plot. Not up to Gail Carriger's usual
standards, but was okay. Well performed mindless fluff.

It was time for the inventor to find someone to love her back. I've loved every one of Gail Carriger 's books, but I always felt a little sorry for Jean Viev. Unrequited love is so sad, even if chosen because it is safe. I'm a big fan of happy endings, so thank you again.

The story was pretty good, and probably deserved a better score, but the woman reading it kept, muspronouncing the word "grimaced". This drew attention to how very often the word was used and distracted from the flow.
