In the same world as Strongheart's Woman, we're in a dystopian future without technology. This one too is a romantic mystery with good, strong character building and a difficult to predict, twisting ending. I enjoyed the story, always trying to figure out who's the bad guy, but did NOT like the narrator. Maybe it was just too many strong male protagonists for female voice!?!

Drast and Tyran might be considered a bit black-hearted, or even immoral. Drast is cunning but reckless, hunting for admiration. Tyran is calculating but tactless, searching for affection. When the two brothers set aside their ambitions to fulfill their father's desire for immortality, they readily discover many opportunities for redemption.

Our "protagonists" are hard to like, but to you end up rooting for them anyway. The narrator's "accents" are difficult to understand at first, and continue to require a hard listen to stay in touch with the dialog. The story moves slowly toward and eventful ending, with openings for future episodes, but there is nothing inspiring or uplifting in it, or the characters. It's was good but not my cup of meat, as they say...

The public can't know they exist. It could start a panic. The average citizen is perfectly fine with superheroes saving the day or causing mayhem in movies and comic books. But if those suprahumans actually walked among us, what would happen then? In a crumbling post-war city of the future, private eye Charlie Madison stands in the gap. The last of his kind, a champion of lost causes, he confronts corrupt cops, violent bratva and yakuza, doing whatever he can for the average citizen in need of help.

Our protagonist has a mysterious past which is never fully explained in this first book, but the story has no cliff-hangers, I just look forward to finding out more in subsequent issues. Told in a series format, there is some repetition covering previous episodes/chapters, but it's all very engaging, and well worth a listen. Highly recommended...

Honestly, the protagonist has some maturity issues, and the Narrator amplifies them. The story is good, action-packed, and in a world well built. I should have read the book, I would have enjoyed it much more than the Audible version. The narrator ruined it for me. I still rate it 4-Star for overall and 5-star for story!!

Disemboweled by the razor scythes of a six-foot mantis, lobotomized by hungry larvae, or roasted on an exoskeletal skewer: these are only a few of the disgusting ways to die in humanity's hopeless war against giant space insects. Deployed on a brutal bug planet without a chaplain, a depleted infantry unit has entrusted its eulogy duties to the soldier standing closest at time of death. Somehow this rotten privilege keeps falling to Pvt. Timothy Archon.

Under the light of a full moon, the bewitching girl dances to the beat of the tribal drums. The firelight lays shadows in the hollow at the base of her neck. The soft slope of her breasts glows golden and warm. She whirls out of her lover's arms, and the sound of the tiny beads woven into her myriad braids is like the patter of raindrops on a summer's eve. Victor Strongheart watches, his beautiful princess bride at his side. But the heart is a treacherous thing that always longs for what it cannot have.

On horseback with primitive weapons (guns are outlawed), our protagonists face love and loss. The only negative was the narration which sounded at times like she was reading it for the first time...
