For dinosaurs, it was a big rock. For humans: Coronal Mass Ejection (CME). When the Earth is hit by the greatest CME in recorded history (several times larger than the Carrington Event of 1859), the combined societies of the planet's most developed nations struggle to adapt to a life thrust back into the Dark Ages. In the United States, the military scrambles to speed the nation's recovery on multiple fronts including putting down riots, establishing relief camps, delivering medical aid, and bringing communication and travel back on line. Just as a real foothold is established in retaking the skies (utilizing existing commercial aircraft supplemented by military resources and ground control systems), a mysterious virus takes hold of the population, spreading globally over the very flight routes that the survivors fought so hard to rebuild.

Great character development. Narration was great. Storyline is plausible. Good prepper/humanitarian book. I thought it would be a bit "Hippie" because of its title and it is, but with a good dose of reality of what happens if you act like a hippie. Good job to all involved with the book. Just one thing that I kept looking for but didn't hear anything about in this book are dogs, there are a lot of dogs out there. Thanks!

I would recommend one thing. please ask a local about how to pronounce the place in the book. I love how the Sheriff leads the defense of his community! Great job!

There were many who said it would happen. No one listened. Was it true that ISIS set off multiple EMPs across the United States, taking out the entire power grid? Or was that just a cover-up? John and Laura Monroe are stuck on a train that has come to its final stop 150 miles from home. With no communications, and with strange storms taking over the skies, every decision they make could be the difference between life and death.

I have listened to many books in this genre. So if you are new to this genre then I would recommend it. If you have listened to many then I would probably pass on this one. Everything the characters do is dumb. I guess that's how Hawk decided to present the book. It works for some audiences but for the veteran in this genre its just annoying.

A homeless Marine veteran living in the abandoned tunnels beneath Chicago, he's far better prepared than most people. Good folk have survived, but they are often outnumbered and outgunned. With the horrors of Chicago put down hard, Dick, aka Devil Dog, Jamie, Mel, Luis, and Courtney head west, where they are hoping to reunite with family. There's only a few problems along the way. Only a few. Rabid cannibals, hunted by psychotic raiders, a town that's forcing a "tithe" on travelers, and a government gone wild, all before the main event.
