As a child, Chris Hooper dreamed of monsters. But in deep space, he found only darkness and isolation. Then, on planet LV178, he and his fellow miners discovered a storm-scoured, sand-blasted hell - and trimonite, the hardest material known to man. When a shuttle crashes into the mining ship Marion, the miners learn that there was more than trimonite deep in the caverns. There was evil, hibernating and waiting for suitable prey.

Reacher, the simple yet acutely logical hitchhiking beast drifts with purpose into another town - a town he knows...at least, he thinks he knows. A dark & brutal story unfolds, replete with tensions from the locals, and the local PD.

Our primitive, bone-snapping hero discovers just who he really is in this taut, yet somehow bucolic, romp down Reacher Lane. Or, rather, stomp down Reacher Lane.

This pulse pumping story, combined with narration from the superbly gifted Scott Brick, make this the best credit you've spent in a long time.

So when Colonel Carl Butler answers the call from an old and powerful friend, he knows it's something big - and he's not being told the whole story. A high councilor's son has gone MIA out of Cappa Base, the space station orbiting a battle-ravaged planet. The young lieutenant had been wounded and evacuated - but there's no record of him having ever arrived at hospital command.

Meet Rabo Karabekian, a moderately successful surrealist painter who we meet late in life and see struggling (like all of Vonnegut's key characters) with the dregs of unresolved pain and the consequences of brutality. Loosely based on the legend of Bluebeard (best realized in Bela Bartok's one-act opera), the novel follows Karabekian through the last events in his life that is heavy with women, painting, artistic ambition, artistic fraudulence, and as of yet unknown consequence.
