Ten years ago, Lex was forced to skip town, giving up everything he'd ever known. But even his time in solitude couldn't keep away the memory of the girl he'd left behind. The girl who'd offered him her innocence, and her heart. Thea had moved on from the boy who abandoned her. Good job, fiancé, comfortable life in New York ...until everything is ripped away from her, leaving her to pick up the pieces alone.

One of the few white kids in a rural Kentucky town, Logan Whyte always kept to his own kind out of self-preservation. He never considered himself racist, but that didn't stop him from falling in with the wrong crowd--one that celebrated hate as much as he fought it--or from ending up in prison for eight years on an armed-robbery charge.

I loved this book and thought it was well written. Dealing with race issues in any book is diffiuclt but I love the way it's written without offending.

Through the book you can see how both Katie and Logan grow and learn to let go of the past. For Katie it was not allowing her friends and family to continue treating her like a child and for Logan it was getting past his race issues.

I do think that on occasions teal and Katie's father go a little to far on trying to protect her. And although they might have been trying to look out for her interfering with a grown woman's life was not the way to do it. I thought more than once teal was a home wrecking hooker and that she was trying to be Katie's mother and not her best friend. Although at the end teal started acting like a best friend should and I don't hate her as much.

And I'm glad that by the end of the boom you can see the changes that everyone was making for the better and I loved it because shows that no matter what you went through I life you can always come out on top.
