Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them audiobook cover art

I received this book from a friend, but it was not at all what I was expecting. This is, for all intents and purposes, an encyclopedia. And though the subject matter is interesting in a cutesy, reference sort of way, it really kind of disappointed. Eddie Redmayne, however, reads beautiful... but, then, one would expect that really from such a talented actor.

First, I'll admit that Oberon is my favorite character in the book, and Luke Daniels portrayal really makes him come to life. As a former resident of the Phoenix area, it was interesting to hear the places described. The story moved smoothly and was well written, but, for me, it's Luke Daniels reading of the book that provides the most enjoyment.

The story is gripping; I had a hard time turning the book off. Yangsze Choo story is brilliantly peppered with descriptions of places and customs that let the story envelope you in such a wonderful way. And her reading of the story itself is also beautifully done, her cadence and characterizations only deepen the story further and her voice is very pleasant to listen to.

Peter Kenny does a phenomenal job of presenting this story of the Witcher, I will definitely look for more of his narrations. The story is very good, though it seems to be told in a series of flashbacks that don't seem to go in chronological order; while not as gripping as some other books, I will definitely be buying Blood of Elves to continue the saga.
