Boring. As short as it was, it took me forever to finish it.
He is a cliche. She is a babbling idiot. Pass.
I bought another book from AL without knowing anything about the author... Hopelly it'll be better than this (which at least was free).

Not even the usually amazing performances of these narrators saved it.

One word. Stay. It was all he had to do. Instead, he got on that bus and took my heart with him. That was 17 years ago. I moved on. Marriage. Kids. White picket fence. Everything I ever wanted, but my husband betrayed me and I was left once again.

This sounded SO promising!... And then I began to read.

Neither the H nor h were engaging in any way. She is a terrible mom (her interaction with the kids is almost none, and their father just DIED!), he is an asshole (I mean, he was about to propose his gf of FIVE years one day and the next he is pinning for the one who got away? Hard pass!).

I expected so much, but soooo much more! Im in such a book slump 😢 I need help!

Not even two of my fav narrators managed to save it.

NYPD Detective Alec MacAidan has always been good with weird. After all, his life has been a string of the unexplainable. But when an injured man gives him cryptic clues, then turns to dust in front of him, Alec's view on weird is changed forever. Cronin, a vampire Elder, has spent the last 1,000 years waiting for Alec. He'd been told his fated one would be a man wielding a shield, but he didn't expect him to be human, and he certainly didn't expect that shield to be a police badge.

The romance was so slow-burn that the flame died out for me, I just couldnt care less about plot nor characters.
Not gonna continue with the rest of the trilogy

Jake Weston and I met under a cloud of cliches: Boy meets girl. Boy charms girl. Boy screws girl. He was the sexiest, cockiest man I'd ever encountered, but I had no idea he was a senior pilot when we met. No idea we worked for the same airline, and he had secrets just like me.

He is an asshole, she is a doormat. Then why did I enjoy this story so much? One of the many unanswered questions in the universe.
I think the only thing that annoyed 3/4 down was that Gillian had many, MANY reasons and opportunities to finish things up with Jake, but when she finally did, it was due to the most stupidest one and precisely when he tells her he will explain things later. I mean, WTF? Jake is a jerk to you but you chose to dump him when he is having a clear emergency? You're wacked, girl!
Up to here, my rating was 3.5/4...

And theeeeen BAM! The writer screwed it all up with Gillian's book and her own wishes to get two mill for a book deal that becomes the next Fifty shades or some shit like that. A book within a book. Hers, no less. Turbulence. Presumtuousj much? Yeah, no thanks. Then she even describes the cover! Those "details" knoked about all of the stars from my rating.
Shame. About 80% of the story was so good, but her twist was so self serving, I just couldnt deal.

Erin Mallon and Joe Arden, flawless, as usual.

I'm naturally gifted on the field and between the sheets. With flashy cars and enough media attention to put the royal family to shame, I'm the definition of most eligible bachelor. Every man wants to be me, and every woman wants to tame me. Until Camila. The moment I lay eyes on her, I know I have to have her. She wants to keep me at arm's length. I want her naked in my bed. Minority, here...

Great narrators, they got the one star.

Other than that, flat story, flat characters, flat scenes, everything flat. It was hard to finish it, it was so boring. I kept peeking at my other books longingly, but my OCD, as always, got the best of me.

Thank God this audiobook was for free, but what about my wasted time??? 😕

Five years ago Michael Graham betrayed the only person who ever really knew him. Since then he's made an art of hiding his sexual orientation from everyone. Including himself. So it's a shock when his past strolls right into the Harkness College locker room, sporting a bag of hockey gear and the same slow smile that had always rendered Graham defenseless.

For about 95% of the story, Ricker is a sweethart with noooo dignity whatsoever. Can you say doormat??? Like, seriously, honey! No one deserves to be treated like that! And he let it happen practically willingly and begging for it!
Graham is just a whiny asshole! I hate him! I know I should understand how hard it must be to be in his situation but I couldnt. His trauma and hang ups were all of his own making! And he didnt do nothing to get better or do something for the guy he "loved". Ugh! I wanted to slap him most of the time. I wanted Ricker to told him to go fuck himself and find someone worthy of him. Alas, that didnt happened.
At least we had a HEA, although I would've loved an epilogue where Big D got kicked out of the team or something.
A character I did love was Bella and I cant wait for her story... Too bad I have to because I dont have any money right now 🤣

The narrators on the other hand? A delight!!!! I LOOOOOOVE THEM BOTH!!!! ❤

Short, sweet, light, but not great. Too much unnecessary scenes in which nothing happens when we could've had a deeper growth from the "straight" character.
I enjoyed it anyway, but it could've been better.

Neal is a pushover. He should've dumped Mara's ass as soon as she began her temper tantrums.

And Mara's an utter bitch. I actually was rooting for the ghosts here, which isn't a good sign during a scary story.

You want the MCs to survive, to get out alive, even if at the end, they don't.

And on the contrary, during the majority of this book, I wanted Neal to die to teach Mara a lesson, or her to die so I didn't have to put up with her anymore.

Besides, after listening to audiobooks such as Hell House and It with their amazing narrators, I'm sorry to say that Piper Goodeve's work is not that great for this genre. You need a voice that traps you and keeps you on edge when your listening to a scary story, and hers definitely doesn't do that.
