Jen Dixon is not your typical Kansas City kindergarten class mom - or mom in general. Jen already has two college-age daughters by two different (probably) musicians, and it's her second time around the class mom block with five-year-old Max - this time with a husband and father by her side. Though her best friend and PTA president sees her as the "wisest" candidate for the job (or oldest), not all of the other parents agree.

Any additional comments?

Only complaint is technical in the way it's downloaded and bookmarked. The actual audio bible is really wonderful and I'm enjoying reading the bible cover to cover this way. In fact a friend and I challenged each other to do this and are both enjoying it!

We really needs a change in the way the parts are downloaded. I would be open to more parts if they were just broken down in sections of books of the Bible to make it easier.
I know requesting a chapter and verse search option is too much, but at least a Book search (there are only 66 of them, how many books have more chapters than that?!)
A bit more work should go into the technical side of this to add to the ease of listening and enjoyment.

This book wasn’t for you, but who do you think might enjoy it more?

Someone listening to the story for the first time or who hasn't listened to the other stories as an Audible book.

What didn’t you like about Guerin Barry’s performance?

It wasn't for me. I didn't care for the addition of music, I think it cheapens the story and the performance. My issue isn't so much with Barry's performance, but with my expectations and previous experience listening to Gerard Doyle's readings. It is Doyle's voice that I want and expect to add his flavor to the characters. It was very disconcerting to deal with a different representation of my beloved Tony & Carol.

If you could play editor, what scene or scenes would you have cut from The Last Temptation?

All the music interludes should be removed!!

Any additional comments?

The story didn't flow. I felt like I missed something. It didn't feel as detailed as other novels, but I'm willing to consider that I felt this way because the performance so threw me.

Would you consider the audio edition of Mockingjay to be better than the print version?

I am a huge audiobook fan, so yes.

What about Carolyn McCormick’s performance did you like?

I can still hear her voice in my head while I write this review. I wasn't sure about her at first, but she grew to be the voice of the book and her "contained passion" performance ends up being the perfect voice of Katniss's story.

What did you like best about Born Standing Up? What did you like least?

I have always loved Steve Martin. To this day, whenever someone goes to tell their story to me the line "I was born a poor black child" goes through my head and I smile. I love that Martin is this clean cut guy I always thought he was. That he worked so hard for so long to do something he really loved. I felt the discomfort and the inability to stop and his desire to remain a basically decent guy.

Would you listen to another book narrated by Steve Martin?

Yes. This was just a little flat in performance almost like Martin was reluctant to read it. I guess I'm used to him performing and being that crazy guy.

What else would you have wanted to know about Steve Martin’s life?

Anything else he is willing to share. (wait, maybe we want to hear what he isn't willing to share.)

What did you love best about Beyond Belief?

I really liked the perspective the book was written from. Jenna starts the book writing as a devotee of Scientology and you can see the cracks along the way, but she didn't until things became really bad. I like that it wasn't a finger pointing rant, but a story of her gradual disillusionment with a belief she dedicated her early life to. It gave her story a lot of credibility.

What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?

More story was needed. I felt like the story wasn't told or this was the version of her story you'd tell to your 7 year old.

What was most disappointing about Jennifer Sky’s story?

Jennifer hints at the difficulties endured, but this book ended up sounding like she went to Japan, didn't get modeling jobs, drank and partied, came back to America, worked in modeling and movies and was traumatized. I don't want to undermine that something(s) happened to her but she doesn't share any of that. For someone putting herself out there as a voice for abusing young girls in this industry, I was not moved at all.

How could the performance have been better?

She sounded bored and lacked passion or feeling.

What did you love best about The Retribution?

I love books with repeating characters that you get to know. The story was compelling and I appreciate seeing the plot and turns from all the character's perspectives. I have no concerns when buying one of McDermid's books. I know I'll love it.

What other book might you compare The Retribution to and why?

Patricia Cornwell, James Patterson

What about Gerard Doyle’s performance did you like?

The representations of the voices and accents worked for me.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

I always squirm a bit when reading these novels. That may be what I like about them.
