The night after the fourth of July, Layton Carlson, Jr., of Red Wing, Minnesota, finally got lucky. And unlucky.

He’d picked the perfect spot to lose his virginity to his girlfriend, an abandoned farmyard in the middle of cornfields: nice, private, and quiet. The only problem was...something smelled bad - like, really bad. He mentioned it to a county deputy he knew, and when the cop took a look, he found a body stuffed down a cistern. And then another, and another. By the time Lucas Davenport was called in, the police were up to 15 bodies and counting.

I have enjoyed all of John Sandford's book. This one was especially good. I liked having Virgil Flowers play a part, even though small. Really enjoy the narrator- Richard Ferrone.

What made the experience of listening to The Other Boleyn Girl the most enjoyable?

Learning the history in a way that is so easy. I can't wait to get in my car to drive somewhere because I listen to this story. It is very well written, it flows, has intrigue, doesn't get hung up on lots of details, yet one learns many details woven into the fabric of the story. The dialogue is great!

Who was your favorite character and why?

William Stafford. He is level headed, loving, supportive.

What about Susan Lyons’s performance did you like?

Credible voices.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

No. I listen to it while driving.

Any additional comments?

I have listened to other books in the Philippa Gregory series and will listen to more. They are among the best historical fiction I have "read".

Chicago cop Jacqueline "Jack" Daniels has chased and caught dozens of dangerous criminals over the course of her career. But she's about to meet her match. When Jack wakes up in a storage locker, bound and gagged, she knows with chilling certainty who her abductor is. He's called "Mr. K," and more than two hundred homicides have been attributed to him. His victims have died in the most horrible ways imaginable: he is the essence of evil. Some think he's just an urban legend, but he's very, very real. Jack has tangled with him twice in the past, and both times he managed to slip away.

Jumps back and forth

Overall
4 out of 5 stars

The order of story, jumping between three different time periods, was not enjoyable. I think J A Konrath has done this in previous books, but not to this extent. I listen to audio books while driving, in about 45 minute segments. It might take me 8-10 time periods to get through an audio book. I kept getting confused with where I was in the story. (The Jack Daniels character is one I know well as I have listened to all previous books, so I had a solid grasp of Jack's life. This still didn't help.)

I think I saw an option to listen to the book in chronological order. I would recommend that.

I still gave it 4 stars as I like the characters; they make me chuckle.
