I haven't reviewed many books because most are enjoyable to listen to. But this one deserved a review in hopes you would not waste your time. I can say I enjoyed the narration but not the contents. You do get sucked into the first few chapters, because you have hope for this "hefty" character. When the boy starts his story the profanity starts and the story drags on...so slow you want it to end. But I hardly ever quit a book in the middle so I trudge forward enduring each chapter to the finish. And oh the end.... it leaves you hanging. Dreadfully so....no happy, no nothing. Because of this I don't think I will ever purchase another of her books. So glad I did not pay full price or use a credit for my purchase.

Getting a life isn't always easy. And hanging on to it is even harder.... Jodi Taylor brings all her comic writing skills to this heartwarming tale of self-discovery. Known as The Nothing Girl because of her severe stutter and chronically low self-confidence, Jenny Dove is only just prevented from ending it all by the sudden appearance of Thomas, a mystical golden horse only she can see. Under his guidance Jenny unexpectedly acquires a husband - the charming and chaotic Russell Checkland.

This book wasn’t for you, but who do you think might enjoy it more?

Didn't really know this author but reading reviews of the book had thought I would give it a go. It was interesting at first as the characters developed but got boring fast, I didn't like Mickey as I thought him arrogant and overbearing. I guess I like a little more romance than the trash talk sex that occurred. I skipped over the sex scenes as the only reason I kept reading was to find out what was wrong with Mickey's daughter. That part was the most interesting of the whole book. I was totally surprised. The rest just didn't ring true for me.

What do you think your next listen will be?

The local Gullah culture of voodoo and magic is one that few outsiders can understand, least of all Elise’s new partner.
