I just couldn't get into the relationship between the two protagonists. She was too young for him and I didn't care for his personality. The story was a weak and not up to Balough's usual fine fare. Of course, the narrator was wonderful as usual.

Like all the Bedwyn men, Aidan has a reputation for cool arrogance. But this proud nobleman also possesses a loyal, passionate heart - and it is this fierce loyalty that has brought Colonel Lord Aidan to Ringwood Manor to honor a dying soldier's request. Having promised to comfort and protect the man's sister, Aidan never expected to find a headstrong, fiercely independent woman who wants no part of his protection, nor did he expect the feelings this beguiling creature would ignite in his guarded heart.

Of course Rosalyn Landor is one of my favorite narrators and I enjoy Julianne MacLean's books very much. This one was lovely. Both characters were nice people and fell in love at first sight. There wasn't a lot of tension or any "will they or won't they". It was pretty much a forgone conclusion that there would be a happy ending. And, that is okay with me.

I love Jayne Ann Krentz's books under her Amanda Quick pseudonym and I've enjoyed others in the modern romance genre. However, this book just left me cold. The narrator, Amanda Cobb, was not very good. She "overacted" the narration of the characters and it was hard to tell the males from the females by her vocal intonations. I hate to say this, but the narration was rather amateurish. The story was just okay, but not very clear and seemed rather confusing. Not one of her best.

Hugh Prentice has never had patience for dramatic females, and if Lady Sarah Pleinsworth has ever been acquainted with the words shy or retiring, she's long since tossed them out the window. Sarah has never forgiven Hugh for the duel he fought three years earlier, the one that forced her cousin into exile, nearly destroying her family. But when the pair is forced to spend a week in close company, they discover that first impressions are not always reliable. And when one kiss leads to two, three, and four, the mathematician may lose count, and the lady may, for the first time, find herself speechless.

I really enjoyed this book. Billie, the heroine, was definitely the most entertaining and delightful character. George, her nemesis and secret love, is the perfect hero - strong, intelligent, and wise. Rosalyn Landor is one of my favorite narrators and able to fill her characters with the right amounts of emotion and personality to make them come alive for the listener. The story was too simplistic to earn five stars, but it was a very enjoyable listening experience.
