Former Broadway dancer and current agoraphobic Billy Shine has not set foot outside his apartment in almost a decade. He has glimpsed his neighbors--beautiful manicurist Rayleen, lonely old Ms. Hinman, bigoted and angry Mr. Lafferty, kind-hearted Felipe, and nine-year-old Grace and her former addict mother, Eileen. But most of them have never seen Billy. Not until Grace begins to sit outside on the building's front stoop for hours every day, inches from Billy's patio.

I liked this story. it was a bit slow moving, especially in the middle, but the characters were endearing and lifelike and I still enjoyed putting in on in the car or while I was cleaning. It definitely was not one of those books I couldn't wait to turn on and had to keep listening to, but I still thought about it throughout the day and was sad it was over. overall, a solid four stars.

I liked the main character overall, but I found her a bit too nice and easy going. I wanted her to push, be more forthright, get ticked off once in awhile. even when things were hard for her she still didn't react how I would expect her to. apologizing to her mother? ehhh I just wish she'd stand up for herself. the read was fun and quick. overall, a good read that you won't regret .

Emma has a job in television which is distinctly less glamourous and exciting than it sounds. She's managed to claw her way up the ranks from Tea Maker and Rubbish Collector to Second Assistant Director (heavy on the assistant. Even heavier on the second.). So when she finds she's accidentally very pregnant and at the same time accidentally very sacked (well, less accidentally: she did tell her boss to stick his job up his bum), she knows things are going to have to change.

Demeter is brilliant and creative, lives with her perfect family in a posh townhouse, and wears the coolest clothes. Katie's life, meanwhile, is a daily struggle - from her dismal rental to her oddball flatmates to the tense office politics she's trying to negotiate. The story line changed about halfway through and really lacked a smooth ride. it starts off with her dealing with her late husband and all his drama to being a housecleaner and dealing with other people's issues. it was very odd. I felt like I had to just finish and get through it. Overall, the characters are likeable, though a little annoying and petty. My main gripe, and it's pretty significant, is the amount of times the author would say 'he said, she said'. I had to fast forward conversations because it was so incredibly annoying. aren't there a million other ways to say it -she exclaimed, she pondered, she muttered, etc. i couldn't believe it made it past the editor.

I read fat chance and found it fairly funny and entertaining so I thought reading another nick Spalding book was an easy choice... but the first chapter of this book made me digusted and I felt sick a few times. maybe I'm just a prude ( more than maybe, I guess I am because nobody else has said anything in the reviews thus far) but if you aren't into a really raunchy read, pass on this. can't attest for the rest of the book beyond the first chapter, but a huge disappointment for me. Scared to try any of his other books.
