I wasn't a fan of the short synopsis so I resisted getting this book for a while. I read a few others and kept coming back to Jane's books trying to find my next read that compared to Faking Friends. This, like her other book, has a lot of twists and turns. It does start fairly slow and it takes awhile to get into, but by midway, I couldn't stop listening. very fun and creative!

Sixty-nine-year-old Arthur Pepper lives a simple life. He gets out of bed at precisely 7:30 a.m., just as he did when his wife, Miriam, was alive. He dresses in the same gray slacks and mustard sweater-vest; waters his fern, Frederica; and heads out to his garden. But on the one-year anniversary of Miriam's death, something changes. Sorting through Miriam's possessions, Arthur finds an exquisite gold charm bracelet he's never seen before.

So I read a Man Called Ove and I couldn't stand it. the man was a crank, dull and negative and I never found him endearing. He changed bc people around him forced him to change. This book is similar to the book, a sad older man looking for something more in life, but Arthur is different than Ove. He's sweet, he grows, he's kind and gentle. He's understanding and his character grows bc he finds experiences and chooses to grow, not because other people force him to. I love this book a million times more and though there are sad parts, overall it's a book about hope. There is one point where I'm like "he better not..." and if he had I think it would have left a bitter taste in my mouth, but luckily the author chooses the better choice. I recommend and hope people adore Arthur like I do.

Former Broadway dancer and current agoraphobic Billy Shine has not set foot outside his apartment in almost a decade. He has glimpsed his neighbors--beautiful manicurist Rayleen, lonely old Ms. Hinman, bigoted and angry Mr. Lafferty, kind-hearted Felipe, and nine-year-old Grace and her former addict mother, Eileen. But most of them have never seen Billy. Not until Grace begins to sit outside on the building's front stoop for hours every day, inches from Billy's patio.

I liked this story. it was a bit slow moving, especially in the middle, but the characters were endearing and lifelike and I still enjoyed putting in on in the car or while I was cleaning. It definitely was not one of those books I couldn't wait to turn on and had to keep listening to, but I still thought about it throughout the day and was sad it was over. overall, a solid four stars.

I liked the main character overall, but I found her a bit too nice and easy going. I wanted her to push, be more forthright, get ticked off once in awhile. even when things were hard for her she still didn't react how I would expect her to. apologizing to her mother? ehhh I just wish she'd stand up for herself. the read was fun and quick. overall, a good read that you won't regret .

Emma has a job in television which is distinctly less glamourous and exciting than it sounds. She's managed to claw her way up the ranks from Tea Maker and Rubbish Collector to Second Assistant Director (heavy on the assistant. Even heavier on the second.). So when she finds she's accidentally very pregnant and at the same time accidentally very sacked (well, less accidentally: she did tell her boss to stick his job up his bum), she knows things are going to have to change.
