Even under the most normal circumstances, high school can be a painful and confusing time. Unfortunately, Lilianna’s circumstances are anything but normal. Only a few people know what caused her sudden change from model student to the withdrawn pessimist she has become, but her situation isn’t about to get any better. When people begin coming down with a quick-spreading illness that doctors are unable to treat, Lil’s worst fears are realized.

Narrator makes such a difference for me....

I understand the choice of a youthful sounding narrator to match MC's age -- still never my first choice, but understood...

more problematic were the frequent oddly placed pauses and "upspeak"/“downspeak” (high rising terminal/falling intonation) and pauses which kept pulling me out of the story.

Interestingly, the narrator was spot on with upspeak/downspeak during dialogue, but way off/weird during narration...
Pauses were weird throughout...

Her teenage daughter has grown distant, and her heart breaks daily for her teenage son with cerebral palsy. But soon Emma discovers her wishes are coming true, and she realizes that she has been given the power to change her life. Either that, or she’s going insane.

This post-apocalyptic dystopian short story follows Elizabeth, a mechanical and chemical engineer who used to work for a rapid prototyping firm. She uses the skills from her former life to provide for her and the woman she took under her protection, Melissa. The two seem to thrive in adverse conditions to bring semi-modern conditions to their hidden camp. But even after the world ends, you sometimes need something pretty.

MC's thought process about love interest was mysogynistic/anti-femins. Really hope most people (any gender/orientation) don't think that way.... After TEOTWAWKI the "hero" values a person/romantic partner so little as to think "I don't know why I keep her around"... Yuk...

Also re: writing style - really needs a refresher on show, don't tell.

On an isolated Texas ranch, Dr. Lucy cares for abandoned animals. The solitude allows her to avoid the people and places that remind her of the past. Not that any of the townsfolk care. In 1959, no one is interested in a woman doctor. Nor are they welcoming Calvin and Justin Bell, a newly arrived African American father and son.

It's been 12 years since Tru Bennett last saw Jake Wethers, her former best friend and boy she once loved. Jake Wethers, sexy, tattooed, and deliciously bad lead singer, and brains behind The Mighty Storm, one of biggest bands in the world, left Tru with a broken heart when he moved from England to America with his family when they were both 14. Sent to interview Jake for her music column by the magazine she works for, they are both unprepared for the sparks that fly the instant they reconnect.

It's Katie Peterson's job to be a mouthy DJ, but being mouthy just got personal. Jess Harkins has started construction on a 60-story office tower next to Katie's quaint local radio station. She'd hate his building anyway: Who needs another high-rise? But Katie especially dislikes having her view blocked by the guy who turned down the chance to be her "first". So it's time for a little payback.

Fine story, fine narration EXCEPT -- both narrators has a SERIOUS problem with secondary character voices -- they makes them sound like children, or super-squeaky, or constipated. LAME. Why didn't the production team correct this problem before publishing? (to be fair this is a common problem with narrators -- especially when reading characters not of their own gender -- but it is MOST annoying!!!! -- The narrators should just read the story, NOT over-act

Sub-par for Harlequin Blaze.
--Reader was good, except she sometimes overdid "male" voices.
--Recurrent fantasy of slave girl/ plantation owner son does NOT work. (slave girl set up sometimes works to set up bondage fantasy scenarios-- here there is NO bondage, so the slave girl setup is useless -- and just reminded me every time (which was A LOT) that slave women were often forced into sexual relationships with owners/ owners' sons -- YUCK, not sexy)
-- also, SEVERAL grammatical errors in reading (was that the reader or in the original text?) -- errrors were so glaring that they jarred me out of the reading.
