In her late 30's, Rosaria encountered something that turned her world upside down - the idea that Christianity, a religion she had regarded as problematic, might be right about who God was. That idea seemed to fly in the face of the people and causes that she most loved. What follows is a story of what she describes as a train wreck at the hand of the supernatural. These are her secret thoughts about those events, written as only a reflective English professor could.

Not a cliché conversion story. Real life. Real pain. Real redemption. This is what it looks like when the gospel triumphs in the postmodern world.

I'm not Jewish but I have wanted to engage the Talmud so the opportunity to do so in an audible format was too good to pass up. The way this is structured and delivered makes for great accessibility and is pleasant to listen to. Whether a practicing Jew or not I recommend this title for enriching one's appreciation for the rich wisdom contained in the Jewish tradition..

Arguing from Scripture and history, Dr. Boyd makes a compelling case that whenever the church gets too close to any political or national ideology, it is disastrous for the church and harmful to society. Dr. Boyd contends that the American Evangelical Church has allowed itself to be co-opted by the political right (and some by the political left), and exposes how this is harming the church's unique calling to build the kingdom of God.

This is one of the most relevant and challenging books of our time. The Kingdom of God is an affront and alternative to the nation-states that Satan holds in his hands (Luck 4:5-6). Christians cannot settle for a more Christian version of a worldly nation. we are altogether a different kind of Kingdom.

In 36 thought-provoking lectures, you'll explore enlightening teachings that have inspired the world and that continue to speak to life's most important questions. Throughout, you'll benefit from Father Koterski's ecumenical perspective, as he presents these teachings within the Jewish and Christian traditions and compares the varying versions of these texts. What do these writings have to say about the great philosophical problems people seek to understand? You'll find out as you contend with the literal and figurative meanings behind some of the Bible's most essential books and parts (as well as some that many of us overlook).

What did you love best about Biblical Wisdom Literature?

The lecturer's intimate knowledge of the subject matter combined with a life of devotionally interacting with these texts.

Any additional comments?

The Great Courses Series often employs biblical scholars who are erudite and professional, but uncommonly do they employ one whose expertise is colored by a life of meeting God in and through the analyzed texts. Critical but also devotional, this treatment on the biblical wisdom literature has just the right synchrony of features to impart a holistic treatment to the audience.
