Psychotherapist Letty Whittaker, a professional secret keeper, has a secret of her own. When one of her clients slips free from an abusive boyfriend, Letty becomes the target of his violent rage. Wayne invades Letty's life, slithering his way past the barriers erected between her personal and professional lives, leaving gifts of dead rats, mutilated dolls, and freaky Shakespearian sonnets. Worst of all, Wayne uncovers Letty's deepest shame, infiltrating her AA group and threatening to expose her to the state licensing board.

Characters came alive: laughed, cried, mourned, identified. Narrative visualized easily. I felt, as Letty felt.

Thirty-something Emma Beckett has always looked down on 'the glass is half full' optimists, believing it's better to be realistic than delusional. But when she loses her high-powered job and fiancé in the same week, even Emma has difficulty keeping calm and carrying on. With her world spinning out of control, and bolstered by a challenge from her best friend, Emma makes a radical decision. From here on in, she'll behave like Pollyanna: Attempting to always see the upside, no matter how dire the situation.

I was so encouraged, by the struggles & overcoming of their temptations, to give up on themselves, because of obstacles, of both, Will's & Emma's, individual "wrecking balls" destroyed what they considered 'valuable'.

extra note: as one, who literally, was born with a 'Pollyanna' heart & grew up, much as the original "Pollyanna" character...

I can honestly state, reading this story, has been a Gift from God, for me. For many years, I have been praying, to return to that complete confidence, that as long as I get up, again, my Father, will renew my life.

For, to not try again, and/or try a different tact, gauranties failure, by default.

I have not, so closely, identified with a story flow, and character.. since, Elanor H Porter's Pollyanna!

In the first book of this brilliant series, Stephen King introduces listeners to one of his most powerful creations: Roland of Gilead, The Last Gunslinger. He is a haunting figure, a loner on a spellbinding journey into good and evil. In his desolate world, which frighteningly mirrors our own, Roland tracks The Man in Black, encounters an enticing woman named Alice, and begins a friendship with the boy from New York named Jake.

Started reading this series, as each print copy was released...years ago. By book 5, they sold out everywhere, in this town! Even @ Walmart!
Before it became available, my life had distracted me, in other matters.
Been so long ~
I knew had to begin, @ book 1
Yet, I do love this audio version! Because, not only can i continue daily activities,
when distracted, i can go back and
replay, at the point of last recollection
with the simple, yet awesome controls
in the audible.com app!
