I really wanted to like this one, but, I just... the rampant sexism, racism, and the main character are all just exhausting when combined together. The racism and sexism are contextual, but man, it's still just a little too much. I'm really sorry, I really wanted to like it, but I'm honestly just bored.

There's nothing more disgusting than listening to a guy talk about how much he wants to have sex with a girl, while simultaneously listening to her verbally tell him to stop, and that she's not interested. I do not CARE what her "body" says. I do not care about this insane bonding thing. Della might kiss him, but the fact that she is constantly yelling at him, and saying no, and telling him she's not interested, means Chase needs to go throw himself into a volcano for literally trying to see her nipples in one scene.

I have been waiting for Queen of Ieflaria to come out on Audible with so much anticipation, and I was not let down!

Calvin is a spectacular writer and Wlazlo’s narration expertly brings the world to life. I highly recommend this book to anyone who loves romance, drama, and fantasy!

So I feel like the author has no faith in her audience. We get explained characters multiple times within a couple chapters. Yes. We know that this dude is a member of the guard and a friend to Casper. You told us that last chapter. We KNOW the king isn’t exactly talkative, stop telling us every time he opens his mouth. She talks down to us and it’s kind of... exhausting.

I did not expect this book to go the direction it did, and I cannot lie, I love how it went. There's just something so earnest about the way Bauer writes. You can honestly tell she LOVES her world, her characters, and most of all actually writing. This is one of those indie books that isn't uncomfortably indie--if you know what I mean. There's actual care and passion.

My one nitpick is the occasional repetition of things that don't necessarily NEED to be repeated. That includes, but is not limited to explaining what Myla's igmy (I apologize, I have to guess how to spell it, thanks audible) look like, and just occasional things like Sissy being described as her best friend multiple times. Yes, we know and love Sissy, we don't gotta hear it every time.

But like I said, I'm nitpicking. I love that Myla and Lincoln are so confident in their feelings for each other. I love that they don't ever just spend half a chapter worrying about how strong the other is, and telling each other "you can't do it because you're not strong enough" despite repeatedly showing that they're more than strong enough. It's a partnership through and through.

I honestly feel like this series just keeps getting better. There are little quirks in Bauer's writing that some people might not like, but I love the snark, I love the sarcasm, and most of all, I LOVE the world that she's created.

I dnf'd literally 5 minutes in. It's clear that the Author... started writing without a plan. I don't know if we see the time Sloan changes later in the book, but no. No. No. You can't just start with "Oh by the way I turned into a dragon 2 weeks ago." SHOW US.I don't want to hear it. SHOW US YOUR CHANGE. That would be 90x more interesting.

Sort of important to know, because 6 chapters in there’s a complete recap and it gets super redundant. HOWEVER this book is so worth it. I always see twists coming, like always, and this book pulled one over on me three times at the end.

There is a marked improvement over the writing style in the first book, it’s clear that the author has hit her stride.

The first chapter has a weird pitch-shift downward at the very start and it was almost enough for me to call off the series if it had continued into chapter 2. It didn’t.

Okay, the story is good. I will admit that. Erin Moon gave an amazing performance. However... Adrienne definitely needed to do another edit before publishing. There are weird inconsistencies.

Most of the time it's Master Longwei, sometimes it's Mister. I highly doubt that they'd REALLY call the headmaster mister when 3/5 times they call him Master.
There's a species of dragon called a Sunblast, but randomly about 21 chapters in they start calling it a Fireblast.
These are really the only two examples, but it is pretty jarring I think that there are some errors that could have been caught with another edit.

That being said... I don't not recommend it. I did enjoy it, even if I saw the overall series's twist coming from 10 lunar distances away. (Or maybe it's just the twist for a couple of books, I don't know, I'm in the second book and it STILL hasn't happened yet.)

This is really fun, I loved this. I didn't expect I would, I'm a super snob, but I also totally love that Christina Bauer read her own book. She injected a lot of personality in the reading. Some of the descriptions felt a bit repetitive, but that's just me nitpicking. Cuz at least she was consistent and had people of color in her book. It's so worth a listen. 100%.
