Gemma Summers is unlucky in love. She's known it since third grade, when her first crush blew a spitball into her hair, and a decade-long string of bad dates, boring sex, and abysmal morning afters has done nothing to improve her prospects. But when a random radio call-in contest lands her courtside tickets to the hottest playoff game of the season, Gemma's luck may finally be on the upswing, even if it doesn't exactly seem like it when the dreaded Jumbotron kiss cam lands on her and her date.

I gave up after 25 chapters about how the heroine doesn’t trust anyone so keeps rejecting the guy who is after her. That was about all the story there was and I finally decided that it wasn’t going to get better. Narrator was good.

I thought the leads would never get together! Three books it took to get them to actually get engaged and married. I like the writing and dialogue and this third book was the most interesting by far in terms of plot and surroundings but solving the mysteries seems weak. Frequently the guilty parties are caught in the act or blurt out their guilt rather than the investigators cleverly uncovering the mysteries. So I have mixed feelings about the first three books.

Here’s the plot: Boy meets girl, they have sex about twice each chapter and the sex scenes are sooo repetitive that they’ve boring, no real plot except that someone gets beaten up or killed every now and then followed by more sex and, oh yes, none of the many family members like each other and make snide remarks constantly. I assume story number two was ditto. Narrator was quite good. I skipped the last half of the book. I’m so glad I got this book under the Romance plan so it cost nothing.

I love these stories but this one had two problems. First, the narrator needs practice with accents. Irish, Scottish, English and American accents are needed but the only truly successful one was the American accent in Mel’s brief appearance. A number of times I had trouble determining who was speaking - partly due to the lack of accents and partly due to a failure to differentiate the voices. The story seemed fragmented bouncing from couple to couple and topic to topic. Of course I’ll buy the next one but please bring Mathew back!

I loved the quality of the writing and the characters were very well developed but the story was so long and drawn out. It was a bit like the narrator was alternately reading three women’s day by day diaries. As in all our lives nothing much happens on most days. I think the writer has great promise but she needs a good editor.

I’m a genealogist so I was really looking forward to this book. The genealogy research portions of the book were quite believable and explained well. However the two main characters, purported to be in a long term relationship, were so lacking in emotion or humor that it was difficult imagine them as a couple. The narrator added to the problem with his flat unemotional voice. The very convoluted plot was difficult to follow. I actually listened to the last couple of chapters twice to see if i’d missed something. After all was done I spent some time wondering why on earth any upper class British family would be ruthlessly killing people to cover up the Nazi sympathizer leanings of the family from World War II - over 80 years ago? What’s more they conveniently left a complete written file of their involvement sitting on an open shelf in their library?

I love the genealogy involvement and the quality of the writing but the characters need more development and more humanity. The plots need more believability and they need a new narrator.
