Jake McKallister might have been a rock star, but he was no ordinary one. Surviving an unspeakable crime as a young teen had shaped him into a guarded workaholic, and he now lived his life trying to forget. If it hadn't been for music and the redemption he found through it, he might not have survived. Career success came easily for him. Personal connections did not.

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Would absolutely recommend it. While there is drama, the book doesn't go overboard on angst, a refreshing change from so many of the romance novels lately.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Both were equally favored.

Which character – as performed by Andi Arndt and Joe Arden – was your favorite?

Again, both were just as lovable.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Absolutely - Andi Arndt has always been a favorite, and Joe Arden was just as great. Together they were perfect.

Any additional comments?

J. Bengtsson is a new favorite, and and automatic download for me. The book moved along at a nice pace, and was just enjoyable all the way around.

The only permanent thing in my life is the ink I put on my clients. I drift from city to city, in and out of beds, from one tattoo shop to the next. Every time I start to put down roots, I rip them up. Until New Orleans. Until her. She's everything I'm not. Full of fire and life. An innocent where I'm a sinner. I want to consume her. Protect her. Keep her. But first I have to escape from beneath these shadows.

Where does Beneath These Shadows rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

Probably in the top 10% of romance novels. The dirty talk was off the charts, imo.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Beneath These Shadows?

Not one particular, which tells how great this book was, more than one was memorable.

What about Andi Arndt and Sebastian York ’s performance did you like?

Honestly, I though I was getting a little burnt out on Andseb 😊, but once again they deliverable off the charts verbal chemistry.

Yes to all. However, I do like the male lead to be a little more alpha, and the lead female seemed to always be striking out at him physically. It got a little old. It sounds like I'm the exception, but I didn't find it as funny as most.

What made the experience of listening to The Player the most enjoyable?

Well written and well narrated with strong yet still believable characters.

What did you like best about this story?

Love a HEA, and this was no exception.

Which character – as performed by Zachary Webber and Megan Tusing – was your favorite?

No particular favorite, but enjoyed the narration by both ZW and MT. They added to the overall enjoyment of the story. I also liked that at the top of each chapter, the character wasn't announced, something I find redundant and unnecessary in other audiobooks.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

No extreme reaction, which is part of the draw. Just a great read, with not a lot of angst, and a surprising twist that was a great add.

Any additional comments?

Chances are Ms. CC will be an automatic download for me.

Would you listen to Badlands again? Why?

No, once was enough. Just didn't hit the normal C.J.Box mark all of his other novels have.

Would you be willing to try another book from C. J. Box? Why or why not?

Have listened to all of his books so far, and certainly willing to listen to the next. I do prefer the Joe Pickett series, but even the other mystery/thriller, The Highway was a better listen.

Which scene was your favorite?

No particular scene stands out.

Any additional comments?

I've typed, erased, and re-typed my comments, not really being able to put in words why this book fell short for me. I think the marriage of characters brought forward from the Highway to the story of a small town gone boom-town just didn't work. Perhaps not enough development of the good guys, only the bad. There wasn't anything truly unique about the story, but at the same time C.J.B. did still write a good book. Just not a great one. I think I finished it more out of loyalty rather than thorough enjoyment.

Would you try another book from K. Bromberg and/or Angelica Lee and Mike Chamberlain ?

Absolutely! Loved the other books in the Driven series, but just couldn't connect with Quinlan. Didn't feel as though she developed any depth until far into the story. Plus, a little too much "I need sex" on her part. Also felt the dialogue was a bit repetitious.

What was your reaction to the ending? (No spoilers please!)

It was fine... a little drawn out after the "incident", but still good.

What about Angelica Lee and Mike Chamberlain ’s performance did you like?

One of those books that makes you grateful for audio. Enjoyed Mike Chamberlain, especially, since he had multiple male voices to do. Both did a great job.

Do you think Sweet Ache needs a follow-up book? Why or why not?

I think Luke or Vince could use their own story.

Any additional comments?

Again, love K. Bromberg and looking forward to her next book.

Where does Stinger rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

Stinger is right up there. I am very, very stingy with 5 stars. I think the only reason I didn't rate it a 5 for story is the same reason I actually enjoyed the book. The beginning felt like it was one type of romance, and turned into something much more in depth and intriguing than I was expecting - almost like two different books. I loved it.

Who was your favorite character and why?

While it's always easy to like the guy, what made Stinger so likable was his turn-around as a human being. Loved him.

What does Maxine Mitchell and Brian Pallino bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

MM and BP were great - I could get lost in the story without the distraction of trying to decipher any who's-who in an audio. Definitely would listen to them again, especially BP.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

Without giving anything away, probably the "toast" from bad-ass guys to a young life lost.

Would you try another book from Emma Chase and/or Jason Carpenter and Charlotte Penfield ?

Absolutely - love EC, and JC and CP did a great job narrating. Distinct voices, correct emotions, all good.

Have you listened to any of Jason Carpenter and Charlotte Penfield ’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

If Jason Carpenter or Charlotte Penfield are narrating, I know I won't need to listen to a preview - they're awesome.

Any additional comments?

Stanton seemed like such a stand-up guy in the beginning, then just seemed to disintegrate as a decent person. Emma Chase did such a good job building his character that I couldn't get past disliking him - fictional or not! :-) I had a hard time with the "she's mine...oh wait, you can't look at her, either." A selfish man wanting it all. Additionally, it's tough to get far enough into a book and not feel like there's a lead female character. All said, I'll probably cool down and give the finish a second chance.

If you could sum up Willing Captive in three words, what would they be?

Witty, hot, and enjoyable.

What other book might you compare Willing Captive to and why?

not sure, it follows a known theme, but with a refreshing spin.

What about Angela Starling and Alastair Haynesbridge ’s performance did you like?

spot on. Both did a great job. Definite distinction between characters, and AH had the ability to read a female's voice without making me cringe. Generally male narrators doing female voices sound like Mrs. Doubtfire. :)

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

sometimes you need to surrender to be set free.

Any additional comments?

cant wait for the next book by Belle Aurora, and will put a star by both narrators' names for future listens. Cute that "bad-ass" was referenced in the book a few times, and that happens to be the authors initials.
