Pitch for this book: it’s basically Mission Impossible, except everyone is morally shitty, every ten seconds there’s some huge reveal, and every single one of the six leads has a full character arc. I don’t know how that’s possible, honestly.

Performance was awesome: I’ve seen a ton of praise for the Kaz voice, which was pitch-perfect, but not much for Inej’s perfect character voicing - I swear that’s how she always used to sound in my head when I read this in physical - and Jesper’s, which just sounds so much like him. I swear, the first time I heard his voice, I burst out laughing at how perfect it was for his voice.

The Matthias narration was great, but I’ll admit he’s always been my least favorite. The Nina narration was decent and had great dialogue delivery, but could’ve been more emotional and less frivolous-sounding in places. And the Wylan narration.... I liked it fine, but honestly, it’s a bit one-note for the character.

This is a good and entertaining story to begin with, but the narration is fantastic and absolutely worth the time. Each of the many characters was instantly recognizable.

A captivating and atmospheric historical novel about a young girl in Nazi Germany, a psychoanalyst in fin-de-siecle Vienna, and the powerful mystery that links them together.Gretel and the Dark explores good and evil, hope and despair, showing how the primal thrills and horrors of the stories we learn as children can illuminate the darkest moments in history, in two rich, intertwining narratives that come together to form one exhilarating listen.

I ADORE the woman's voice. The man's voice is good as well. Unfortunately, I felt that the two narrators often lost my attention due to my own distraction. This would've been fine if the story were not so confusing. Perhaps it would've been better to read some chapters and listen to others.

Why we think it’s a great listen: Gaiman’s not just an award-winning author, but a narrator who earns rave reviews – and fields requests from other authors to perform their books, too! Nobody Owens, known to his friends as Bod, is a normal boy. He would be completely normal if he didn't live in a sprawling graveyard, being raised and educated by ghosts, with a solitary guardian who belongs to neither the world of the living nor of the dead....
