- Narrated by: Lou Diamond Phillips
- Length: 17 hrs and 53 mins
Decades ago, when he was a young CIA analyst, President Jack Ryan, Sr. was sent on what was supposed to be a simple support mission to investigate the death of an operative looking into the suspicious banking activities at a Swiss bank. Ryan’s dogged tenacity uncovered not only financial deceit, but also the existence of a KGB assassin code-named Zenith.
It is with Regret I finished this.

Did Tom Clancy even read this???
What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?
The story and Clancyverse is just so far removed from the earlier books. The problem is that Jack Ryan Jr is now more James Bond than everyday man.
What do you think your next listen will be?
I am looking forward to Sci fi or military.
What does Lou Diamond Phillips bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
As a narrator he brings a great voice and hearing him speak allows me to visualise the book so much more.
What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?
I would say sadness as I just remember reading every book as it came out and enjoying them then when Red Rabbit came out the quality just dropped.
Any additional comments?
The problem for me is that the writers now have made the main characters just indestructible. In the last book Clark cops a beating and even now all the main characters are up and killing with no effort. The tv show 24 has a lot to answer.

WOW!!! Detail to the smallest degree
If you could sum up The Rise and Fall of the Third Reich in three words, what would they be?
Detailed, Detailed and Detailed
What did you like best about this story?
As someone born in the 70's and has only war movies and video games to follow when it comes to the history of WW2 it was a pleasant surprise and thrill to listen how things were. I had heard of the miracle of Dunkirk and for some reason thought the whole evacuation was over one day. This taught me from Hitler's grandparents to the end of WW2.
Have you listened to any of Grover Gardner’s other performances before? How does this one compare?
This was the first book I had listened to of Grover and he dis it first rate. Will defiantly look to other books he has done with confidence.
If you were to make a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?
The whole story from start to end. No bull!!!!

Unfortunately not the best of the series
Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?
Once again it is well read by the able Marc Thompson but as a storyline for the "Star Wars" universe it is rather poor and to use a term I don't like it seems tired. I tried so hard to enjoy but as it went on the story tried to carry a sense of mystery and thrill which I believe just wasn't there.
What do you think your next listen will be?
I am looking forward to enjoying the Halo series as I have heard they are good. Also looking to get the 20th annerversary Heir to the Empire by Timothy Zahn. Love the book and have read on multiple occasions and am looking forward to listening to it.
What about Marc Thompson’s performance did you like?
The background sound effects are first rate with the speaker sounding like he is enjoying the role. I have listened to some other audio books where the speaker must be doing it against their will but Marc Thompson sounds like he really wants to give the listener a good time.
Was Star Wars: X-Wing: Mercy Kill worth the listening time?
I don't think it will go down in the record books as a great book but I recommend if you see it on special or with the members discount.
