This review is for the audio copy of Unquiet Dead: Chiaroscuro Chronicles, Book 1, by Chris Pavesic and narrated by Penny Scott-Andrews. This was my first steam-punk story. I was greatly impressed. It was a well written story, very good plot and character development. One of those stories that I was plugged into anytime that I could spare. The narrator was perfect for this story. She did a great job with all the voices and her pace and intonation was perfect. I highly recommend this story.

So I did get book 2, and I am very happy that I did so. The character development was much better in this book, and the story grabbed me more in book 2. I listened to it non-stop. I liked how the story developed and how it played out. I will be looking for more stories by Jack Hunt. As for the narration; you can’t go wrong when you get the best narrator to read your story! Kudos goes to Kevin for a job well done.

This review is for the audio copy of Flame: Ember in Space, Book 3, by Rebecca Rode and narrated by Stacey Glemboski. The third book puts the finishing touch to this 3 book series. The character development comes together very well is this story. There were some critiques about this in the earlier books but I believe it was necessary so that you could see the characters grow and mature into their roles/lives. Anyway, I enjoyed the story very much. A major contributor that made the Audible version great was the voice and voices of Stacey Glemboski. She made the story come alive in my mind and it would not have been the same without her reading the story. I look forward to future stories written by Rebecca and narrated by Stacey. Great job you two!

Following their rampage through Southeast Asia and the Pacific in the five months after Pearl Harbor, Japanese forces moved into the Solomon Islands, intending to cut off the critical American supply line to Australia. But when they began to construct an airfield on Guadalcanal in July 1942, the Americans captured the almost completed airfield for their own strategic use. The Japanese Army countered by sending to Guadalcanal a reinforced battalion under the command of Col. Kiyonao Ichiki.

It is told in great detail so if you are a detail orientated person this will be the story for you. There was a lot of research put into this book for the author to be able to relate the personal experiences of the people who fought in this battle. The narrator did a great job, of course! It was easy to listen to, filled with facts and details, and provided some insights into the nasty business of war.

The United States has experienced its share of turmoil over the years. Although not particularly as war-torn or stricken with genocide and violent crime as other nations, over time, gun violence and terror attacks have become commonplace on American soil. Never before has the United States been subjected to widespread coordinated terrorist attacks, devastating enough to bring the entire nation to its knees. Until now.

I liked the different story lines the author uses to tell the overall story. This is one of my favorite writing styles. Yes, you do have to pay attention to keep things straight in your mind, but I like that very much. It keeps me engaged in the story throughout the entire book. And Kevin Pierce tells the story like no others can. His range of voices, cadence, delivery and timber are spot on for these types of stories. I am very much looking forward to the next installment of this story.

This is the second Dane Maddock Adventures book I have listened to. I have to say they are quickly becoming some of my favorite books. You know have to listen to them in series, they have great plots with lots of action and many interesting characters. When I need a break from TEOTWAWKI stuff, I am finding this series the one to turn to. And Jeffrey Kafer is the only person who can narrate them now. His voices are now the only voices of the main characters that I will recognize and want to hear. He does a superlative job at telling these stories.

William Wallace started out as a humble knight, but he died a war hero. He gave up everything in his fight for Scottish freedom, including his life. When captured, Wallace was hung, drawn, and quartered by the English king for crimes against the crown. Though he was memorialized in the 1995 film Braveheart, this book tells how much of what we associate with Wallace is more legend than fact. Still, the spirit of the great Scotsman lives on in the hearts and minds of his compatriots today.

Douglas Hogan and narrated by Kevin Pierce. This book was just average for me. The characters were believable and their development was consistent. I just didn’t like their decision making process and there was quite a bit of “drama” between them. The story line is as expected for this genre. Overall it was just okay. I might get the sequel to see where it goes. But it wasn’t one of those stories where I couldn’t put it down and I am not dying to know what happens next. Kevin Pierce did an excellent narration of the story of course.
