I love this series in audiobook. After a solar flare knocks out power in parts of America, Allison and her husband James open up their farm to take if family and friends and to build up a community. There are cold-hearted killers on the loose who are hungry and looking to steal.
The narration was perfect; the story was exciting and interesting with the author teaching about herbs and tinctures to improve health. Allison brought in neighbours who had skills to share, and they taught the children to add normalcy to the long days of manual labour for all.
I was disappointed in Allison's ambivalence to Riley; he worked tirelessly to make sure she was protected and everyone stayed safe from harm. Maybe the next book will capture this relationship and bring new information to light.

Enjoyed this audiobook and listened mostly in my car today. This is my first book by Steven Bird and it will not be my last. The author kept the story moving, it was entertaining and gruesome at times. I enjoyed cheering on Isaac and Jessie and hoping they would make it to the end.
The narrator was spot on in his portrayal of the characters, and J. Scott Bennett remains my favorite voice in audiobooks.
Excellent novel and the perfect length audible book.

I really enjoyed this seasonal historical romance; the characters were fresh and lively. The narrator did a wonderful job with the language and speech of 19th-century Britain. I appreciated the history the author put at the end of the book to add context for the reader as to the weather at the time this book took place. Most difficult winter in years.

It all started with a mysterious blue note sewn into a wedding dress. Something blue. I’d gone to sell my own unworn bridal gown at a vintage clothing store. That’s when I found another bride’s “something old.” Stitched into the lining of a fabulously feathered design was the loveliest message I’d ever read: Thank you for making all of my dreams come true. The name embossed on the blue stationery: Reed Eastwood, obviously the most romantic man who ever lived. I also discovered he’s the most gorgeous. If only my true-love fantasies had stopped there.

Elliot Daniels voice as narrator is smooth like the finest scotch, warm and inviting as he speaks for all the characters in this short celebration of life at 50.
The author has again penned a titillating story of love and friendship. Two couples who have shared so much over the last few years gather once again for each others 50th birthdays. Each celebration is more daring and inventive than the last as Meka and Elaine and their husbands John and Joe take turns planning the special days.
I always know I will get an inspiring and erotic tale when J.F. Silver is writing the story.
Definitely brought to life by Elliot Daniels.

Unfortunately for Boyd, Adeline, and their two young daughters, it's immediately clear they chose the wrong place. The nightmare begins with violent coughs and headaches. Food starts to rot almost as soon as they take it inside. A pet tarantula goes missing. Some family members begin to exhibit creepy behavior. Then the ghosts arrive, and all hell breaks loose....

The first book came right back to my mind as I dove into this one. Rory and Spencer are incomplete without Jack. Jack didn't know what he wanted from his life.
The author introduced suspense and uncertainty for the characters in this second book. I had no idea how she was going to conclude it but it made for an excellent story.
