In the spring of 1995, Nate Cartwright has lost everything: His parents are dead, his older brother wants nothing to do with him, and he's been fired from his job as a journalist in Washington, DC. With nothing left to lose, he returns to his family's summer cabin outside the small mountain town of Roseland, Oregon, to try to find some sense of direction. The cabin should be empty. It's not.

The perfect narrator. Hilarious, raunchy, poignant and enthralling.

The only negative I have to say are the few background noises used here and there were distracting.

Fresh out of school, Dr. Crane takes on a new patient who both intrigues and unnerves him. Charming, manipulative, and amoral, Max has exactly the sort of mind Crane finds himself drawn to with fictional characters. As Max weaves himself into Crane's life, Crane realizes that while fiction might be safe, Max certainly is not. When the professional line between them thins, who gets to define where one man ends and the other begins?

Manipulative, Controlling, Enticing

What was one of the most memorable moments of Max?

I can't say without revealing important plot points

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

I'm going to think about the plot for a few day. Seeing the darkness even the "regular guy" character has and how the right person could bring that out of him or others could tamp it down was an interesting piece of this story.

I'm a girl who believes in science and facts. Not fate. Not destiny. Or dreams that will never come true. I'm definitely not the kind of girl who meets a cute boy on a crowded New York City street and falls in love with him. Not when my family is 12 hours away from being deported to Jamaica. Falling in love with him won't be my story.

Tyler walks invisibly through the halls of Grady High School. He doesn't have much interest in changing his popularity status, instead choosing to devote his time to the one place he feels most comfortable: drama club. But all that changes one night at a party that he never intended to go to. And after an incident with Kale Greenwood, the insanely popular baseball player, both boys have to deal with the aftermath, with unexpected results. With Kale leading the way, Tyler might just learn there is more than his quiet, invisible life.

How did the narrator detract from the book?

It wasn't the narrator himself, but the audio quality was awful. Very echo-y and I swear at one point I heard a flock of birds in the background?

He owns a video rental store that no one goes to. His closest friends are a lady named Lottie with drag queen hair and a trio of elderly Vespa riders known as the We Three Queens.

Is it possible to write a sidesplitting novel about the breakup of the perfect marriage? If the writer is Nora Ephron, the answer is a resounding yes. For in this inspired confection of adultery, revenge, group therapy, and pot roast, the creator of Sleepless in Seattle reminds us that comedy depends on anguish as surely as a proper gravy depends on flour and butter.

Would you listen to Heartburn again? Why?

Yes. It's not a story with great twists and turns. Easily enjoyable.

What other book might you compare Heartburn to and why?

Many chick lit novels.

What about Meryl Streep’s performance did you like?

Her voice and emphasis are amazing.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

The moment she realizes she has the means to leave. The lightness and freedom she must've felt was palatable.

Budo is lucky as imaginary friends go. He's been alive for more than five years, which is positively ancient in the world of imaginary friends. But Budo feels his age, and thinks constantly of the day when eight-year-old Max Delaney will stop believing in him. When that happens, Budo will disappear. Max is different from other children. Some people say that he has Asperger’s Syndrome, but most just say he’s "on the spectrum". None of this matters to Budo, who loves Max and is charged with protecting him from the class bully, from awkward situations in the cafeteria, and even in the bathroom stalls. But he can’t protect Max from everyone.

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Not only is the the story of a good one, but telling it from the perspective of an imaginary friend is fresh and insightful into the world of autism spectrum. Even without that interest I can see many people enjoying the story of Boodo and Max.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Oswald. He was initially misunderstood, but his willingness to sacrifice himself for Max and his belief that he would live on because of that made me feel affectionate toward him.

Which scene was your favorite?

When Max escapes and is finally able to make decisions for himself.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Actually I enjoyed taking breaks to digest some what I'd heard during each listening.
