Silas Mason has no illusions about himself. He's not lovable or even likable. He's an overbearing idealist, a radical bookseller and pamphleteer who lives for revolution...and for Wednesday nights. Every week he meets anonymously with the same man, in whom Silas has discovered the ideal meld of intellectual companionship and absolute obedience to his sexual commands. But, unbeknownst to Silas, his closest friend is also his greatest enemy, with the power to see him hanged - or spare his life.

I love the characters. I love the narration. I love this story. It’ll put you through the ringer though. There are a lot of ups and downs, with, obviously the ending landing on the up. And I’m really pleased with where all the characters ended up in the end. Matthew Lloyd Davies is a brilliant voice actor, in that he *acts* doesn’t just read. His pacing is good, his voices are distinctive and his delivery is very polished. I adore the back and forth between the two main characters Dom and Silas. They feel real and honest and Charles lets them develop organically, not forcing either to suddenly agree entirely with each other, but also showing the evolution of their thoughts, friendship, and relationship. The D/S nature of the book took me by surprise, but I’m rather glad it did. I tend to shy away from BDSM in books because I’ve had some very unpleasant experiences in the past. Charles, however, handles it masterfully. And I suppose I like it because it stops at the bedroom door rather than engulfing their entire lives, which I find much more enjoyable. Honestly I’ve already listen to it twice. I’ll listen to it again in the not so distant future. If I could get another novel of just Dom and Silas arguing and fucking I’d read it in a heartbeat, no further plot needed. So do yourself a favor and listen to the book. You’ll be glad you did.

If you could sum up Red Fish, Dead Fish in three words, what would they be?

Holy fucking hell

Who was your favorite character and why?

It’s a tie between all of them. Making me choose is cruel. Jackson and Ellery for different reasons. Also Lucy Satan. Also mike. Seriously there is no choosing. They are all wonderfully written well rounded characters whom I would love to meet in real life.

What does Greg Tremblay bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

The accents and the pacing. I’d read too fast, miss too much. And Greg isn’t just reading, he’s acting. It’s like watching tv but better.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Oh god, if only. I would have if i could have. But at the same time i wanted to draw it out and make it last because god only knows how long it’s going to be until the next one. I’ve been waiting for this book since last summer. It was worth the wait, no question, but I listened to it a lot faster than It’ll take for the next one to come out.

Any additional comments?

I’m about to go fangirl at Amy Lane. These books, both Fish out of Water and Red Fish Dead Fish are some of favorite books. And Greg Trembly is a narrator of unimpeachable quality. The combination is outstanding.

I don’t normally like the werewolf genre but this was an excellently written story with well rounded characters and fucking hot sex scenes so even if werewolves aren’t your thing give it a go.

This is no lie my favorite m/m series of all time. I’m on my third listen, that is the most I have ever re listened to a series and they still make me laugh and make my heart hurt and bring me to the edge of my seat even though I know it’s going to be ok. The characters are real people. There’s no stereotypes they are strong and vulnerable by turns they are funny and sardonic and their actions make sense and there is nothing forced about their relationship no suspension of disbelief required by the reader. The mystery is engagingly crafted and if you like mystery thriller books then this should be top of your list.
