Sheriff Hayden Duke was born on the starship Pilgrim, like his father, and his father before him. He expects to die any second. He's already been attacked by demonic aliens, rogue soldiers, and even the people he thought were his friends. He's survived. Barely. He's entered a strange new world. A world he knows nothing about. A world where hope has been buried beneath the claws of monsters and the boots of a tyrant. They took his wife. He has to find her. He has to survive. Another second. Another breath. He can never give up. He can never rest until she's back in his arms.

Ben Harris and his best friends Richie and Jack knew the stories about Old Man Brewster, what happened to his wife...and the flies. They had no idea why anybody would want to live there, but then they met Greg Lupescu, the new kid who had moved in. He looked strange, his father was never around, and he had this creepy butler named Karl. Soon, however, he became their close friend.

Populations died in the most devastating plague to ravage the planet in the history of man. Billions are dead, leaving just a handful of people scattered across the world, struggling to live the lives they have left. Some chose to struggle with the land, scratching out a living on a piece of property and hoping to make it from one day through to the next. Others, the vigilantes and brigands, chose to prey on the survivors. They hunt, kill and torture those who want nothing more than to be left alone to live in peace.

There are few books I've listened to that are good enough to where I'll only be an hour in and really, and I mean Really, hope there's a sequel. This is one of them.

The narrator does a great job and the writing is top notch. I screamed, yes, screamed for joy when I saw there was a sequel. This book is that enjoyable.

So pick it up, you won't be at all disappointed.

but was it worth it!
I hands down love this series! Ever since I read the first book I'd been waiting for the others to be released. Very glad they finally were! The story is top notch though don't expect book 2 and 3 to be as gripping or edge of your seat as the first one. So many things happen it almost becomes a blur. As much as I love the narrator, his real talent shines when he has to cover less characters. Not a dig at the narrator though, he is, hands down, amazing. The second and third books deal with many, many more characters and it can be somewhat confusing at times to tell certain characters apart. Still, with all that said, pick up the first book.. or, go all in for the package deal on audible!

Ok so this book took me awhile to get into. Of course I put it aside for months only several hours in because I just couldn't see where it was going! Having read other books from the author, I eventually came back and decided to have another go at it... Boy, was I glad I did! The story might start you out completely in the dark but if you hold fast it eventually picks up and will keep you on the edge of your seat. What at first seems like nothing but violence porn really does develop into an exciting story and the author
really starts to pull everything neatly together about halfway in. Give it a chance! You'll be glad you did. Only 4 stars because the first hour or two might turn some people away before the book really shines. The voice actor is great as always. Having read/listened to poorly written books in the past.. let me be clear, this isn't one of them. If you enjoyed this you'll probably also enjoy some of his other work like Draculas!

This book starts out with a lot of he said she said type of dialogue which I consider somewhat a chore to listen to. I decided to give the book a shot though and was oh so very glad that I did! This book has a good mix of the darker kind if humor I enjoy, mixed with action and a decent pace. No one is safe when the dying finally starts!

A perfect meld of sci-fi and fantasy, for what is highly advanced technology but magic in the eyes of those who do not understand it for what it is?
This is the first in its series but the second book of Adam Vine brought to life by Kevin Meyer. Perhaps you have yet to listen to Lurk and stumbled upon this by accident. I highly suggest you listen to that book as well if you loved this book as much as I did.
When listening to this book, it's best to dive in only reading the summary. Take little to nothing with you when beginning this. I promise, by the end of this book (as all of Adam Vine's work is apt to do) you will find yourself leaving with much.
