Paris, 1893. Twenty-five-year-old Marie Sklodowska is studying science at the Sorbonne - one of the only universities in the world that has begun to admit women. A thousand miles from her native Poland, with no money and the odds stacked against any woman daring to pursue a career in such a rigorous field, Marie throws herself into her studies. She's certain that to succeed in a man's world, she will have to go it alone. Her meticulous plans get thrown slightly off-course when Marie attracts the attention of an accomplished young physicist, himself on the precipice of greatness.

I loved this wee glimpse into Marie Curie's early life. It was the perfect length for a short listen. I'm really enjoying Audible originals...especially when they're free!!!

Another great listen from a gifted writer. The storytelling draws you in quickly. It's a tough story and might bring up some raw emotion for some people, but like the vastness of the Alaskan wilderness it provides room for those emotions to develop and be dealt with.

I tried, I really did. I patiently listened while each of these 9 annoying strangers were introduced. I endured their back stories. I even endured the spa owner's back story. And I deserve a medal for enduring each person's LSD (yes...LSD) induced journey to self-discovery. But when they emerged from that and I was STILL only half-way through I just couldn't take it any more. I hate to return books after investing that much time into them, but I decided to NOT waste any more time. And I came to that self-discovery without the aid of LSD.

not the same without the author narrating. Lots of "filler" (why do we suddenly need recipes??). If this had been the first of the four that I listened to I might not even have finished it. But happy to imagine Ave and Jack at home in Crackers Neck Holler for the duration!
