When Sylvia Redding inherits a cottage in Alaska from her great aunt, she takes a summer off work to decide what she wants to do. She takes this trip with only one option in mind - to sell the property for however much she can get. Sylvia has a comfortable enough life in Maine, and she doesn’t want to give it up. However, Sylvia wasn’t planning on meeting Ryan Weller, the drop-dead-sexy bar man that tends the only social house in town.

BEARLY DENIABLE is the first book in the UnBearable Romance series. I’m not sure, but I believe you’ll want to read them in the order of release.

This was a fun, light, short read (listen). I loved Sylvia and was glad she had the opportunity to slow down for a month or so and find herself in the town her aunt had loved so much. Do you suppose her aunt somehow knew Sylvia would find her HEA in Alaska?

Narration: The narration by Erin Coker is well done. Her voice was pleasant to listen to while I drove and engaged in the story she was telling.

This is the first book I have picked up from Amelia Wilson. I will definitely be looking for more.

"Marry the devil...or die." That's the ultimatum Belle Harrison, vampire slayer, just received from a demon. Belle has only one response: To hell with him. Turns out it's not that easy, though - apparently the devil doesn't know the meaning of the word no. Lucky for Belle, three pantie-melting vampires come to her aid. Three hot vampires she can't resist. Hey, we all have our vices. Hers just happen to have fangs. She's going to need these three to help her thwart the devil's marriage proposal and defeat the terrifying dark force that wants her dead.

VAMPIRES DON’T GIVE HICKEYS is the first book in the Slayer’s Reverse Harem series. They will need to be read in the order of release.

Anytime someone says “slayer,” we all immediately compare to Buffy. There is no comparison. There is no Angel, Spike, or any of the rest of the Scooby gang. Instead, there are three hot, hunky, undead men who are devoted to Belle before she is introduced to them. Eddie, Jacek, and Sawyer are Belle’s harem of hotties and each is uniquely able to help Belle in her duties as the slayer and to grow as a person.

I like that it was a short story, but not rushed. I loved that there were touches of humor to keep it being as dark as the graveyard. Finally, one of the main things that I like is that the story (and Belle) didn’t immediately fall into a foursome. Instead, she – and we – gets to know all three of the new men in her life as individuals and as more than just their fangs.

This is the first I have read from this author, but I would love to read her other series. I’ll be diving into book two of this series this week!

Narration: I think I’ve found a new favorite! She does a beautiful job of creating a scene in the mind whether it is suspense, lust, humor, intensity, or anything in between.

WISTERIA WRINKLE is the second book in the Wisteria Witches, City Hall series. They do need to be read in the order of release and they are intertwined with the Wisteria Witches series. While you don’t necessarily need to read that series, there are references that will make more sense if you know the characters and circumstances. I would recommend reading this one after WICKED WISTERIA. (That’s where I am in the series.)

I love this series and its companion. The many magical beings and the humor keep me glued to my car seat long after I have turned off the engine. I love the characters and how they interact and speak to each other – like true friends and coworkers.

In this particular episode, the journey is more than an adventure. It is a lifetime and … well, I don’t want to give anything away, but that wrinkle in the title isn’t referring to anyone’s laugh lines!

I particularly loved the Dr. Who and Star Trek (red shirt) references. Those had me laughing extra hard.

I don’t know yet what the next title in this series is, but I know that I am looking forward to it and the rest of the Wisteria town antics.

Narration: Rosemary Benson continues to be a perfect choice for voicing the many characters in the Wisteria City Hall, especially snarky Margaret.

THE CABIN is a stand-alone, dark, contemporary romance.

I loved the yin and yang of Kit and Ivy. Kit is a dark angel. He is a thirty something Army medic veteran with PTSD. Ivy is college age girl doing her skip-year trip on the Pacific Crest Trail with a permanent positive light in her attitude. She seems to be optimism personified.

I loved the insta-lust / insta-love / insta- certainty that they had found their direction in life. He had found the light at the end of the tunnel. It’s not an insta-fix, but a possibility for his life to get better. That’s what I want in a dark romance... to find the light at the end.

Narration: The narrator, Sophie James, does an admirable job of portraying dual voices. I loved listening to her reading and would definitely pick up another book if I saw her name as the narrator.

NOT HIS WEREWOLF is the second book in the Not This series. Though it is best to read them in the order of release, I had not read the first and was not at all lost.

Absolutely entertaining! Especially when enjoyed as an audiobook. I F-loved this book and I want more of this series. It is fast-paced, well crafted, sexy, funny, quirky, and full of the unexpected. It left me smiling for days.

I loved all of the characters. Their mistakes and their passions are bigger than life. They drew me in and kept me captive in a world I didn’t want to escape.

This is the first book I have read from Annie Nicholas. I will not let it be my last.

Narration: B.J. Harrison did an amazing job of bringing these characters to life. I fully expected to start seeing dragons flying over my car as I was driving home and listening to NOT HIS WEREWOLF. I would love to listen to more from this talented presenter.

Planning ahead: Book five is called NOT HER ALPHA, but it’s so far away from book two! I know that eventually Ryota is going to get his mate. Until then, he is aces at being the perpetual grump! I also know that he deserves that mate. He has a heart of gold that is hidden by his gruff exterior. There are already many hints in that direction and I am looking forward to the discoveries to be found there in him.

BARKING UP THE WRONG BAKERY is the first book in the Happy Tails Dog Walking Mysteries series. It is unclear as yet if they will need to be read in order, but usually the first book needs to be read first because it establishes the characters and setting.

I was hooked from the beginning. Being in the mind of the murderer (told from their point of view), I wondered if there would be more chapters from that mind. It was a wonderful and unique way to introduce me to the crime scene and the motive.

After that there is the cozy mystery side of this with Olivia finding Yvette and trying to emulate her favorite book hero while avoiding change in her own messy life.

I loved the humor, the romance, the family ties, the community and the dogs.

The characters are great, the story and the subplots are well woven, and there are loveable dogs – a trifecta win in my mind!

This is the first book I have read (listened to) from Ms. St. Claire. I would love to hear more of this delightful series.

P.S. The titles are marvelous!

Narration: The narrator, Machelle Williams, provides a nice voice to the characters. Her performance is beautiful. I enjoyed listening to her as I drove to and from work and that is all I ask – don’t make that stress higher than it already is. I would love to hear her perform in more audiobooks.

The three stories were each divided into three part serials. Each serial needs to be read in the order of release.

I do not agree with the order of the books in the boxset. The characters are not progressing in age and growth. This causes confusion.

WITCH MYTH YEW HOLLOW is the second book in the series. Again, this was originally released as a three part serial and the three parts do need to be read in the order of their release. This serial was originally released prior to A YEW HOLLOW CHRISTMAS, and should be book one, not book two. It is confusing, in my opinion, to have Morgan going from Coven leader to newly returned to the Coven and her mother is the leader. I am not certain why the author chose to rearrange these two from their release order.

I loved the characters in the first book. I loved them at the beginning of the second book. Towards the end of the second and all through the third, the story took a very dark turn with kidnapping in the name of helping the coven. In the end, I loved them all again, but the darkness was overwhelming for a while!

Narration: The narrations were well done, but odd choices in my opinion. Especially when listening to WITCH MYTH YEW HOLLOW (the second story). The narrator is a middle-age sounding Brit voicing a mid-twenties young lady from Massachusetts. The voice didn’t match the character and that made it discombobulating. The best was the voice for the third book. Unfortunately, I do not know which narrator did which book.

In summary:
Overall, though emotionally dark, I did enjoy these stories very much. These were the first books that I have read from this author and I would love to listen to more!

BEARY TALES is a stand-alone, dark, paranormal romance.

Wonderfully written, it felt like an old-time fairy tale, but with modern characters. There were also elements of some of the old favorites sprinkled through.

Goldalynn starts out as a good girl, but allows her powers to corrupt her. This leads to her using dark magic and claiming it as part of her true love of her husband.

The three bears and their fairy god… uncle, Butchy, are running from her. It is a lot of fun to listen in as these three girl bears learn how to be young ladies and as they each find their true loves.

I loved the humor mixed with the feel of a traditional fairy tale. Uncle Butchy is over-the-top wild and has his own lessons to learn.

I loved the ending. It too was reminiscent of an old fairy tale in twisting and summing up the lessons learned.

Narration: Shana M. Buck has a beautiful melodic voice, but her reading is stilted and forced with many odd pauses and a monotone delivery.
