Some people claim to have their hearts ripped out of their chests. To feel the world shift under their feet. To feel intoxicated by love. Miles Wittman, the bassist for the rock band Trained in Black, felt those things until the shift became a hole and dragged him into darkness. His mind clouded by years of alcohol abuse, the man remembers very little of the last two years of his life. Until her. A woman from his past. Julia Nulty, the band manager's sister, the sexy, exotic plus-sized model.

ALL THIS TIME is the third book in the Sweet Sin series. Each will stand on their own, but I highly recommend enjoying the whole band.

Starting from the beginning pages, the story is emotionally gut wrenching, especially for a person who has lived through the loss of a child.

Then there is Julia. I identified with her: her pain and her optimism; her strength that is easily undermined even as she rebuilds herself. Her mother, no doubt, will find her own bedeviled roommate one day in the afterlife. I won’t say too much more, because I really do think you should read this story for yourself.

My only suggestion is that you read it, not listen on audiobook.

Narration – 2 crowns: Nicole Blessing has a pretty voice, but a monotone delivery. There would be no difference between her reading, “Fire!” in a crowded theater or “I had oatmeal for breakfast.” (Neither of these sentences is in the book.)

This is not the first book I have listened to that Ms. Blessing has narrated, but to tell you the truth, after one chapter, I went looking through the rest of the books I have. I found that I have three more books narrated by Ms. Blessing. Once I have listened to them, unless I hear dramatic (no pun intended) improvement I will not download another book with her name on it.

Note: While I received this book as a gifted audiobook copy via www.getfreeaudiobooks.com, my opinions are my own and are given freely.

WATCHFUL WISTERIA is the fourth book in the Wisteria Witches series. These do need to be read in the order of release.

Settle in dear reader (listener). This story lets you know that this is not going to be a short series. We are getting to know more and more about who Zara Riddle is. Who are her parents? What are they?

The first half of the book is about Zara’s past with her father. In fact, this book could be dedicated to anyone who has an odd relationship with his or her parents – dysfunctional, distant, or non-existent – for whatever reason. Zara’s reasons are brought out, examined, and left for the reader to mull over.

The ghost for this story is introduced in the second half. I love her! Tansy is a genius with plants (something I will never be); she loves her dogs, her chickens, and her reclusive lifestyle.

Once again, Angela Pepper has provided a giggle-fest of zany antics and snarky comments. Don’t try to predict what will happen next; you can’t!

I love this world of surprises and fun. The characters and stories are entertaining from beginning to end every time.

At the end of WISTERIA WONDERS, I speculated about the man with the Aussie accent… well I was wrong about the origin of the accent. Wrong continent, but I suppose I can be forgiven since it was only a few words. The end of this book is even more of a shocker! I cannot wait for more info on the newest drop-in in Zara’s life!

Narration: Tiffany Williams is an amazing narrator. She is a rock star of narrators! She is whom other narrators want to be when they grow up! I’ve told you before that my boyfriend teaches voice acting. He speaks often about something called “theater of the mind.” Tiffany Williams embodies this concept. She provides emotion, feeling, suspense, depth, and nuance to each character and scene. She is a professional.

It is best if the books in the Priscilla Pratt Cozy Mystery series are read in the order of release and I recommend reading them all (or at least the four I have read so far).

FANGS AND FONDANT is a wonderful opening book for the series, named for the bakery owned by Priscilla Pratt.

Melissa Monroe has built a unique cozy world where vampires have revealed themselves to the public. She does a terrific job of describing the differences between vampires and humans and the difference between Hollywood and reality.

The mystery was well thought out. The victim was an annoyingly, entitled, bridezilla. I almost didn’t care who killed her! Except, I didn’t want Priscilla to be accused. Other than the bride and the killer, I found the characters to be inviting, full of personality, and individualized.

It was fun to listen and try to guess the true culprit.

A BITE OF BLUEBERRY seemed to be filled with even more immediate danger for Priscilla and her friends.

Also, Priscilla’s fairy godmother has come to town and her antics add to the laugh-out-loud moments that are needed to counter balance the serious times in a good cozy mystery.

While increasing the likeability of the main characters as I got to know them even better, there was another great mystery to be solved. Priscilla, Anna, Arthur, Maddison, and the rest of the friends we have made in Bellmare are up for the task. These are strong characters and I love them!

BLOOD IN THE BATTER was a terrific story that included LARP play where I could envision my son joining in the fun. I’m just glad nobody twisted an ankle sideways!

The best cozy mystery in the series so far! The mystery will keep you guessing until the end and the characters are strongly written with great descriptions and depth. I am loving them more and more.

The funniest line in the book may have been the last one… wait for it!

HOLY CREPES
I was happy and sad to begin the fourth book in the series. I love this series, but I knew that I didn’t have any more of it.

The two newest members of town (and I don’t want to name them since this is a box set and I don’t want to give anything away in case you haven’t started the first book yet) just may be my two favorite characters besides the girls!

There were so many lovely twists and turns that I was pleasantly confounded, and knew that I just had to hang on for the ride.

Overall, the books are wonderful, but I had a problem with the consistency of Priscilla’s age. She actually got younger in book four than she was in book one! This may also be the only place in the world where it takes six months to get from the beginning of October to Valentine’s Day. Still, those points are me being nitpicky and I still love the stories. I am looking forward to more being released in audio and hope that I will be invited to be part of the review team again.

Narration: The production quality for the narration is crystal clear, as is Cindy Kay’s voice. There were some words that I had to decipher the pronunciation, but that improved with each book and I can only assume will continue to improve as we move forward with the series. There were a few times that she did the wrong voice for a line and that was confusing, but otherwise she did a great job of giving a variety of voices to the different characters. This is always a plus when listening to a book while driving 70mph down the turnpike!

Note: While I received this book as a gifted audiobook copy, my opinions are my own and are given freely.

CHIEF BEAR is the first book in the Rescue Bears series. While each will stand on its own, they are even better when you read them all and in the order of release.

I have always loved reading Scarlett Grove’s Fate Mountain stories. Honestly, I’ve read more than I’ve reviewed, and I need to get more of those reviews posted for ya’all. Finally, I had the opportunity to listen to one in Audible and it is even better than I imagined it could be. This is a dark chocolate cake that now has a sweet caramel center and pink sugar sprinkles on top of the best buttercream icing you’ve ever tasted. To hear those bears wistfully thinking of human woman, “curvy women.” Sigh!

Levi and Juliette are a modern-day version of pen pals falling in love via text after meeting on Date.com long before they meet in person. Of course, they’re not admitting that it’s love yet; she’ll only admit to interest at first and he doesn’t want to scare her off by telling her that his bear has scented his mate.

Nevertheless, how can she not fall in love with the protective, considerate, consuming shifter. I love the romance. I also love their friends and being witness to their relationships. In fact, I’m looking forward to learning more about those bears, their mates, and how they will find their HEAs (especially Brew Bear… it looks like his may be the hardest to convince).

Narration: The narration is unfortunately inconsistent. The production values are not equal, so I was constantly turning the volume up or down depending on which narrator was speaking. Thank God they did full chapter instead of line by line reading!

Calvin Murray has a William Shatner-like delivery with many odd pauses. On the other hand, he does an amazing job at giving each of the bear shifter men a unique voice that was entertaining and added to my listening enjoyment.

Ashley Taylor’s voice work is nearly flawless and sweet to boot! I would be delighted to listen to her again.

When there are two narrators, it would be nice if they collaborated on the sounds for the characters so that both gave the same sound for the same character (or as closely as possible) and work to make their production values match for the sake of the listeners.

THE DEADLY DINNER THEATER AFFAIR is the eleventh book in the Daisy McDare series. I was assured it would stand on its own, so I took a chance reading it without having read the previous books in the series. I was not disappointed. In fact, I was quite pleasantly pleased.

As the eleventh book in a cozy mystery, don’t expect it to follow the mold! Daisy and her fiancé are going to the dinner theater on a date, but she’s worried that her usual luck will follow her. A murder mystery is expected, but Daisy is anticipating more than the one on stage.

I loved the twist on the expected and found this to be a delightful way to relax through my lunch hour while playing “whodunit?” I would love to spend more time with Daisy and her friends.

Narration: The narrator, Lili Dubuque, has a pleasant voice and the production quality if very good. The delivery cadence is a little wooden at times, but not all of the time. A little more practice and that should go away. I would definitely listen to her again.

WHAT THE DOG ATE is a stand-alone romantic comedy.

I was mad and crying through most of the book. Why the hell was Jackie Bouchard fictionalizing my life story? There are so many women who have worked their asses off to make their homes and their marriages wonderful, to make the family dreams realities, just to find out that while they were working, their other half was amusing themselves in another playground! Then I set aside my personal crap (thy name is Wade) and enjoyed Kona, Maggie, and her many supportive friends.

There are wonderful emotional moments, tender and sweet. There are laugh out loud, zingy one liners (“I mean, come on, if they can put a man on the moon, we ought to be able to put one in your bedroom.”). There is Kona, a furbaby like no other. I applaud him for tattling on his Daddy! It may have cost $734 to remove those tiny purple panties, but “that woman” was exposed. He, like most pets, is Maggie’s best support and inspiration.

I will read (listen to) any book Jackie Bouchard produces. This is the second one I’ve listened to from her and she is definitely one of my rising stars.

Narration: Aisling Gray is a wonderful narrator with a clear beautiful voice. She gives distinct portrayal to each of the main characters.

STATE OF THE ART HEIST is the first book in the Booker Brothers Detective Agency series. This one definitely needs to be read first as it is the introduction to all of the characters, though the cozy mystery is complete and stands alone.

I loved that the opening chapter was a conversation between Kacey and the reader. In stage vernacular, she was breaking the fourth wall. It was fun and made me love her immediately. She’s already set the stage (see what I did there?) to make me read/listen to the next couple of books just to find out which brother – Harrison, Lucky, or Owen – she eventually chooses as her mate… and with whom the other brothers will pair up.

I had a blast listening to this cozy mystery. The characters are fun and interesting. The story was laugh-out-loud enjoyment.

NATE is the second book in the Brothers in Blue series. While this stands completely on its own, it is better to read them all and in the order of release.

This is a terrific, fast-paced, action-packed, suspense romance! Though the stalker’s identity was too obvious (no red herrings to keep you guessing) and the economic status of the heroine (from unemployed art teacher to shop owner with an assistant in a few weeks), I still enjoyed the story. I recommend suspending a little reality and experience the romance and suspense.

I would love to read (listen to) more of this series. There is one more brother…. and two more sisters in the Baker family.

Narration: The narrator, Lissa Blackwell, has a sweet melodic voice. She does an admirable job of giving the different characters different voices, though I did wonder why Sophie had a southern twang to her voice when she was a “true Chicagoan.”
The production quality needs work. Bathrooms have wonderful acoustics – for singers working on practicing their projection. As audiobook studios, they are echo chambers.

CARRY MY HEART is the first book in the Is This Love? series. I don’t know yet if they will need to be read in the order of release, but this one is complete with no cliffhanger.

The storyline is a great idea, but poorly executed.

The prologue is a great hook, but I’m not sure where it fits into the story. Therefore, in the end, I don’t know if they are together happily ever after, or she never wants to see him again.

The “angst” was so drawn out that I wanted to skip sections just to get to the next part that might give me some new information.

The ending twist was disappointing. It was a surprise (no doubt), but if he thought that would make her hate him, how well does he really know her?

The dialogue alternated between juvenile and geriatric – “No way, Jose!” “…, my dear.” Though only two examples, neither of these are used by 20-somethings in my experience.

That is the ugly of it. Still, I did enjoy listening to this story and hung in just to find out the reason for Jacob to drop out of Sage’s life so quickly after promising always to be there for her.

Narration: I loved Meghan Kelly’s reading of this story. She did a wonderful job of giving each of the main characters unique voices. This is one of those instances where the narration was better than the story.

WEREWOLVES ON HEAT TRILOGY is a three book audio bundle. Each is a stand-alone paranormal romance novella.

I should have known when I saw that it said the werewolves were “on heat” instead of “in heat” that I was going to find the writing unedited. Many errors should have been caught by even a simple proofreading.

Still, the three stories are creative, sweet, sexy, and romantic.

The men are protective alphas with hearts of gold and feather-soft gentle touches. The women are intelligent, sweet, innocent natural vixens.

Narration: The narrator, Meghan Kelly, has a nice voice, but she sounds like she is half-whispering / keeping her voice down for a sleeping baby. She does great at having different voices for the different characters, but the descriptive text is read in a wooden cadence. I did see improvement in this issue by the third book, so I will give her another chance on another book.
