A single mother turns up dead at the bottom of the river that runs through town. Earlier in the summer, a vulnerable teenage girl met the same fate. They are not the first women lost to these dark waters, but their deaths disturb the river and its history, dredging up secrets long submerged. Left behind is a lonely 15-year-old girl. Parentless and friendless, she now finds herself in the care of her mother's sister, a fearful stranger who has been dragged back to the place she deliberately ran from - a place to which she vowed she'd never return.

I found this book extremely hard to follow. There are so many characters involved, it is difficult to remember who each person is. I found it quite humdrum and kept waiting for something big to happen. That moment never came and the book ended with very little mystery or excitement. I was intent on finishing this book, waiting for a big finale, but it just didn't meet my expectations.

Real estate mogul Sean Jackson is throwing himself a splashy 50th birthday party, but trouble starts almost immediately: His ex-wife has sent his teenage daughters to the party without telling him; his current wife has fired the nanny; and he's finding it difficult to sneak away to his mistress. Then something truly terrible happens: one of his three-year-old twins goes missing. No trace of her is ever found. The attendees of the party, nicknamed the Jackson Associates by the press, become infamous overnight.

This review contains spoilers- I was able to guess who was the perpetrator of the crime rather early on. I also assume the same person killed Linda and Jimmy. I didn't like how the book ended. No one paid for their actions but the children and they were not at fault. This book does not end up in a pretty little bow, it ends leaving you feel like there must be more.

I loved this story. The narration was a tad slow and whiny but the story drew me in and captured my attention.
