Great storyline. It kept me up for a few nights wanting to know what was going to happen. However the long and detailed lovemaking sessions were many. Otherwise it would have been a 5.

I would have enjoyed this book much more if there was more character development and a great deal less of very long and tedious love-making. I found myself fast forwarding to get back to the story.

The narrator was excellent!

From the Audie-nominated narrator of The Martian. In eleven years' time, a million members of an alien race will arrive at Earth. Years before they enter orbit, their approach will be announced by the flare of a thousand flames in the sky, their ships' huge engines burning hard to slow them from the vast speeds needed to cross interstellar space. These foreboding lights will shine in our night sky like new stars, getting ever brighter until they outshine even the sun, casting ominous shadows and banishing the night until they suddenly blink out.

The character development is well done and elicits emotional responses for each character. it is a long book but it kept me interested throughout.

George Eliot’s first full length novel is the moving, realistic portrait of three people troubled by unwise love. Adam Bede is a hardy young carpenter who cares for his aging mother. His one weakness is the woman he loves blindly: the trifling town beauty, Hetty Sorrel, who delights only in her baubles—and the delusion that the careless Captain Donnithorne may ask for her hand.
