Masters of Greek Thought: Plato, Socrates, and Aristotle audiobook cover art

About as thorough of a survey as you can get with Aristotle, Socrates and Plato. Great detail concerning "The Republic".... "The Ethics".... "The Politics" Great coverage on Socrates despite his lack of writing. I especially enjoyed the last 6 hours or so on Aristotle, I recommend it for this section alone.

If you are not familiar with the Great Courses, the book is a series of 36 lectures that are 30 minutes each, given University lecture hall style. 18 hours total. This book is equally divided between the 3 subjects. For a detailed outline go to the great Courses website, or just download the PDF that comes with the this purchase, I recommend doing this as well to get the most out of this audiobook

The detail in this book can cause it to drag in certain spots, at least for me. The lecturer gives an outstanding performance though, he keeps you attention for the most part and is very knowledgeable, the subject matter is what lost me at times though. If you are interested in Greek philosophy this is a must

Probably will require at least two listening's to get the most out of, or great ability to pay attention and to focus.

Also check out "The Great Courses" website for an overview of everything that this covers, info on the lecturer, lecture titles and breakdowns.

This series probably requires two listenings because of the complexity , but it is information vital to all people, no matter your interests, job, age, situation.

The lecturer is clear spoken, extremely informative, entertaining, and not afraid to "tell it like it is"

Covers all aspects of knowledge. Science, History, Politics, Philosophy,
Very Skimpy on the details of it all, especially in science. Presents a new way of looking at all of science, history and humanity. therefore it can change the way that you think of each.
I definitely recommend this lecture series, a bit outdated but still very relevant and very important.
I recommend viewing the pdf that comes with the audiobook, or at lest take a look at "The Great Courses" Website, for an outline on the lectures
The lecturer is every knowledgeable overall, but not a specialist an any of the topics covered, but he does not need to be, with this specific presentation. He has a great voice and presents the material brilliantly.

The title says it all!!
Short book, fun and entertaining, not the least bit serious.
This book is a roller coaster ride. Some chapters are really funny, entertaining and interesting. Some just seem silly and pointless. The chapters are hit and miss. I did find myself laughing out loud during some parts, and shaking my head during others.
Some of this book is extremely ridiculous. Other parts are informative, smart and educational. Quick listen, short chapters, and OUTSTANDING narration. that is probably the best part.

Covers briefly many viruses and the illnesses that they do or may cause. Many of the Recent potential pandemics or epidemics such as Aids, Ebola, Bird Flu, H1N1,SARS, Rabies. Briefly covers the history of older outbreaks and how they are treated or cured or eradicated. The author tells of his personal experiences with these diseases, and the story of how he began to study them. Some human evolution is covered as well as information about apes, monkeys and other mammals. How we battle disease and viruses and what the future holds and how doctors and scientists are using modern technology to help control and prevent outbreaks or spreading of viruses.
Pretty basic stuff but still informative and sometimes a bit hard to follow if you get distracted while listening. but not overly complex. very enjoyable. I learned quite a bit.

All about Viruses, Bacteria, Molds, fungus, parasites, germs, antibiotics, vaccines, bioterrorism and Historical Cases of illness. For a detailed outline of what is covered you can go to the "Great Courses" website.

The Presentation is Well delivered and very informative. It is basic information, nothing very advanced but I still learned quite a bit. The lecturer strikes a nice balance between basic knowledge, technical knowledge, practical advice, historical content and personal experiences. Not the most entertaining style but better than average.
