I always enjoy the work of Barbara Goss. Her story lines are always interesting. While mostly following the norm of sweet, romantic Westerns, she always adds a unique twist that keeps you interested till you reach the satisfying conclusion. I especially appreciate how she weaves so much scripture and life application in her novels, portraying realistic characters grappling with moral struggles. In this book she takes on desperation, loneliness, childhood scars of abandonment forgiveness and restoration with a gentle hand always nudging the reader towards the Grace of God. I am happy to recommend this book.

I have enjoyed every one of the novels I’ve experienced by John Dalglish. They are rarities in the modern mystery genre as they are all without the language and gore of most others and yet are well written, compelling stories that hold your interest through to the “didn’t see that coming” conclusions. I especially enjoy reading about cities I’ve visited, as he always puts the action in areas I can picture in my mind’s eye. His characters are believable and he skillful enough to have the good guys tough yet Morally strong and compassionate and the bad guys evil yet seen as redeemable. Great author, can’t recommend him enough!

I have been a fan of Vivi Holt for some time and eagerly await her newest offerings; so I was especially thrilled to get the chance at reviewing the audible version of Beguiled.... I was richly rewarded with yet another great story.
Ms. Holt’s characters are always multilayered, interesting and seem to grow in character as the plot develops. I am grateful for the realistic soul searching that occurs as they grapple with how to live true to their faith in difficult circumstances.
In Beguiled a chance encounter during Scarlett Johnson’s hasty escape from life as a saloon girl leads her to assume the identity of Minnie, a Mail order bride who has decided to jilt her fiancée, Joe Baker. Originally Scarlet is just looking for a place to rest for a few days before continuing on to San Francisco but after showing up as Minnie, meeting the charming ranch hand and the welcoming Moore family, she wonders if perhaps she could have found love and a place to belong instead. If so, she will have to be willing to share the difficult truth about her past and her deceptions. Joe must also make difficult choices as he tries to reconcile his desires with what is the right thing to do. I am always impressed with how this author takes a deeper look into the motives behind her characters actions.
This storyline took several unexpected twists and turns on the way to a very satisfying happy ending. I think you will be smiling at the conclusion of this story as well as challenged to view your personal life choices in the light of how they affect others. I can soundly recommend Beguiled as an interesting choice for your reading /listening pleasure.

Eamon surprised me with the depth of topics explored. Emily Zhu, a Boston surgeon meets Eamon, a former accountant turned rancher at his brother and her best friend’s wedding. Through a series of disappointments and life changes, Emily realizes that the family expectations and pressures that had formerly driven her to achieve do not need to define her. She begins to see her worth and value apart from what she does. Eamon’s consistent support enables her to take charge of her own life and allows her to make life altering changes and embrace the life and the man she has grown to love.

Shadow of Faith was such an interesting book! Not only did it contain two intertwined romances but it deftly took on the subject of mixed race couples and prejudices in the 1800s....I was fascinated. I appreciate how Ms Goss is able to once again weave an interesting story around core Christian values, challenging the reader to think deeper about what they believe. This is a reason I enjoy and recommend her work.

I absolutely adored this book! It takes place in the Jazz Age of the 1920’s, an era about which I previously knew very little. The author’s perky writing style and the engaging voice of the Audiobook reader brought the main character, Marjorie Corrigan to life in such a charming way, I felt I had made a new friend. Although the book retains a breezy, light tone throughout, many of the challenges Marjorie and the cast of family and friends face were truly difficult issues without easy answers.... Grief over lost love, war wounds, relationship misunderstandings, moral compromises, duty verses emotion...all were explored and gently probed with authentic spiritual truth. I found this book delightful and I can’t wait to read more from this author!

John Dalglish has found the formula for creating intriguing, page turning crime novels that satisfy thoroughly without the objectionable content that fill many books in the genre.
His characters are well developed and his stories are carried along in a sharp, "just the facts" style that allow the reader to solve the crime along with his detectives. I can't wait to read the next book in this series.

Crime novels are not my usual fare...Don't enjoys the foul talk, graphic sex and violence I associate with that type of story. However, Mr. Dalglish's novel used none of these and yet presented a captivating, realistic crime drama. His characters were well written and the story line kept me guessing right up to the satisfying conclusion. He has convinced me that this new genre is one I look forward to exploring. I'm definitely going to read more by this talented author!
