For years, rumors of the "Marsh Girl" have haunted Barkley Cove, a quiet town on the North Carolina coast. So in late 1969, when handsome Chase Andrews is found dead, the locals immediately suspect Kya Clark, the so-called Marsh Girl. But Kya is not what they say. Sensitive and intelligent, she has survived for years alone in the marsh that she calls home, finding friends in the gulls and lessons in the sand. Then the time comes when she yearns to be touched and loved. When two young men from town become intrigued by her wild beauty, Kya opens herself to a new life - until the unthinkable happens.

there were things about the book I disliked even though I gave it a 5 star rating. the narrators voice is so soft I had a difficult time hearing her or understanding specific words. anf that fact may weigh heavy on my confusion in the begining with jumping to different times and back again at first I had to ask "are we talking about the same child here"?
the story was extremely well written and the author kept your interest at all times, the ending for me was not what I was hoping for but I think that's just me
I enjoyed this book i.thoroughly and will be looking for more from this author.

if your into adults taking care of a 5 year old girl and the inter action between them then this is the book for you. if you want to listen to a 5 year constantly getting what she wants then go for it. ultimate care was given to the child so she would suffer no disappointment and forever know she was loved which is a wonderful thing and the adults gave her that in spades. she is a sweet little girl with very little bad behavior but she had very little to act out for.
a book about a cowboys honor it isn't. his honor consisted of doing what he said he was going to do and nothing more.
the narrator did a good job of voicing a 5 year old and that is what you will listen to most. the story line is weak and not really believable.

Pat Conroy is without doubt America's favorite storyteller, a writer who portrays the anguished truth of the human heart and the painful secrets of families in richly lyrical prose and unforgettable narratives. Now, in Beach Music, he tells of the dark memories that haunt generations, in a story that spans South Carolina and Rome and reaches back into the unutterable terrors of the Holocaust.

reading some of the other reviews most said that the narration was poor well in all honesty the narration was the last problem with this book.
the story was boring and the characters were not believable and the plot bordered on if not completely crossed what is believable. all in all a pathetic attempt at a novel and i'm very sorry I spent my time listening to this and the nicest word I can come up with right now is trash.
