A mysterious island. An abandoned orphanage. A strange collection of very curious photographs. As our story opens, a horrific family tragedy sets 16-year-old Jacob journeying to a remote island off the coast of Wales, where he discovers the ruins of Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children. As Jacob explores its abandoned bedrooms and hallways, it becomes clear that the children were more than just peculiar. They may have been dangerous. And somehow—impossible though it seems—they may still be alive.

This book wasn’t for you, but who do you think might enjoy it more?

I don't see how anyone could get past the narration, which is a shame because it seems like a good story

What other book might you compare Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children to and why?

This is a good book and I couldn't stop listening. I couldn't really understand the authors initial likibg for Longo, but apparently many people were taken in.

John Crutchley seemed to be living the American Dream. Good-looking and blessed with a genius level IQ, he had a prestigious, white-collar job at a prominent government defense contractor, where he held top secret security clearance and handled projects for NASA and the Pentagon. To all outward appearances, he was a hard-working, successful family man with a lavish new house, a devoted wife, and a healthy young son.

What disappointed you about The Vampire Next Door?

I have read a LOT of true crime books, and I am not easily bothered or disturbed but this authors descriptions of the crimes committed by JT Hunter was just...wrong. They read a bit like pornography and the horror of the what the victim endured didn't come through. What could have saved this was a well written account of Hunter's motivation or thought processes but that didn't come through either. I have read some pretty harrowing true crime stories and the well written ones describe the criminal activity but don't present it in a titillating or exploitative way, this book did and it left me feeling creeped out and kind of gross. I would like to delete it from my library.
