Really good stupid fun — but it could have been even better with some plot twists. What if Ripley were “expendable” but the crew of this new vessel were not?
I kept waiting for someone to strike a deal with Ashe.
But - what a good time. Now I want to watch the 1st 2 movies again.

I didn’t know anything about the book - just took my monthly freebie from audible original. Now I can’t wait to read the novel. This lends so much more depth to the show! Thanks!!

A cross between The West Wing and “Death Knocks” by Woody Allen. Just enough schmaltz. Hysterical! Great cast. Like an old time radio play. Thanks, Audible!

Both crying sad and laugh out loud funny-
Author just nails all the tones of voices. It’s cool to see how the early 2000s played out for high school kids and how they grow into adults. Full of pathos.
Richly rewarding. I’ll read again a couple of 3 audiobooks from now, as there are lots of details I’m sure I missed the first time.

I love the Columbia references in the story — like St. John, I came from the home of a middle
American football powerhouse (the University of Iowa in my case) but unlike him, I was well acquainted with losing (the Hawkeyes are likely to stink up the joint as they are to be nationally ranked) so I grok both extremes he describes.
He’s done such an expert job of folding in the technical side of his arguments into his narrative that I scarcely notice how well documented and thoughtful his book is — like a shot of whiskey in an icy cold Coca-Cola.
I wish St. John had read his own book, but the reader does a masterful job of several different varieties of Southern drawl.

I’m mad and sad that I’ll never be able to read this again for the 1st time.
It’s so funny and so dark. Great absurd adventure, great characters, great comedy and tragedy.
I didn’t need the musical interludes and flourishes — only once did I feel it really added something to the story.
Narrator does a beautiful job. One of my very favorite audiobooks and I have some dear favorites

Nothing like a good ocean rescue story, a tragedy of a mad captain going down with his ship, or an expose of corporate greed and political stupidity. This has all of the above. It’s even better than The Perfect Storm by John Krakauer because so little of the dialogue is conjectural.
Just listen!
Thanks

Former FBI Director Comey almost accomplishes the impossible: he almost, almost! Makes me think about going back into the practice of law.
Fascinating details about the real-life internal fights within the Bush 43 administration, prosecuting and convicting NY organized crime families, the fateful decisions during campaign 2016.
Everyone in the world should read the epilogue if nothing else.
Thanks!!

I love audiobooks and I listen to them all the time. I’ve got my favorites, but this one towers over anything I’ve ever heard before. The writing is genius, the narration is amazing, the stories are LOL funny and/or you’ll have to pull over because you’re tearing up. Amazing!
One caveat: skip the 1st story, which is merely good by comparison. Maybe leave it to the end as a cool-down. Thanks audible!! Thanks, James McBride! Thanks, talented cast of voice actors!

I learned lots of interesting details about a story I already thought I knew well.
The reader takes it much too fast (but not so fast that slowing it down is much help. Worse, he has taken no trouble to learn Hebrew pronunciation. His constant mistakes are annoying and make this otherwise enjoyable book a harder listen.
