When Sarah McKinley is finally able to buy and restore the historic Florida mansion that she has always loved, she dismisses the horror stories of past residents vanishing and a long-dead housekeeper who practiced black magic. Then, in the midst of renovations, she makes a grim discovery. Hidden within the walls of Sarah's dream house are the remains of dozens of bodies - some dating back over a century.

The story was okay but I kept getting wrapped up in my dislike for the narrator’s voice. She just didn’t have enough range and all the characters sounded the same.

Sooooo dramatic. Her accents were off and she sounded very robotic. It was also hard to tell the characters apart because they all sounded the same. I don't know how long she's been at this but I am hoping she gets a lot better with more practice. If I hadn't enjoyed the storyline so much I would have stopped listening. I will not listen to another novel narrated by her. Time to ask the library to stock the entire series instead of just a few.

Little else in life is as dangerous as fire jumping. Flying past towering pillars of smoke, parachuting down to the edge of an all-consuming blaze, shoveling and sawing for hours upon hours, days at a time, all to hold the line and push back against the raw power of Mother Nature. But there’s also little else as thrilling - at least to Rowan Tripp. The Missoula smoke jumpers are one of the most exclusive firefighting squads in the nation, and the job is in Rowan’s blood: her father is a legend in the field. She’s been fighting fires since her eighteenth birthday.

The storyline took forever to get started and the villain was easy to pick out. The narrator doesn't have a broad enough range of voices so it was hard to keep track of who was "talking" at times. Love books by Nora Roberts, just not this one.

But I prefer it when there are male
and female narrators doing each gender's voices. There are only so many octaves men can do for females before all the voices start blending into one. Despite the various accents I still had a hard time deciphering who was who. All in all, though, it was a great job and a great story. I would definitely recommend it.

I listened to this on audio and, while the narrator's performance was decent, the voices began to sound the same after a bit.

Other reviewers are correct, there are some sex scenes described in detail, nothing too raunchy but they could have been left out; especially the last one. I mean we get it, they're dating and having sex...we don't need to be with them every time they do it.

I would definitely try this author again because it is an interesting concept.
