Ten years after the events of Morning Star, Darrow and the Rising are battling the remaining Gold loyalist forces and are closer than ever to abolishing the color-coded caste system of Society for good. The story itself is an amazing continuation of the Red Rising Saga. The characters have grown and changed in believable and interesting ways.
One narrator (Lysander’s narrator) was a bit difficult to follow as he did not modulate his voice for different characters like the other narrators. However, it was still very good!

Psychiatrist Andrew Marlowe has a perfectly ordered life--solitary, perhaps, but full of devotion to his profession and the painting hobby he loves. This order is destroyed when renowned painter Robert Oliver attacks a canvas in the National Gallery of Art and becomes his patient. In response, Marlowe finds himself going beyond his own legal and ethical boundaries to understand the secret that torments this genius, a journey that will lead him into the lives of the women closest to Robert Oliver.

I found this book to be incredibly well-written. I loved the descriptions especially as they were written as if by a painter. However, there was not much which actually happened in the book. I found myself quite expectant halfway through and still not much happened. Still, it was relaxing to listen to, and the readers were very good.

Melanie is a very special girl. Dr Caldwell calls her "our little genius". Every morning, Melanie waits in her cell to be collected for class. When they come for her, Sergeant keeps his gun pointing at her while two of his people strap her into the wheelchair. She thinks they don't like her. She jokes that she won't bite, but they don't laugh. Melanie loves school. She loves learning about spelling and sums and the world outside the classroom and the children's cells. She tells her favorite teacher all the things she'll do when she grows up. Melanie doesn't know why this makes Miss Justineau look sad.

This is one of the best zombie books I have ever read. Right along with World War Z. I heartily recommend.

It's written a bit like Milne's Pooh books, except creepy. It's great! My only complaint is that it's so short. However, for a story to be so short and so good is impressive. Gaiman is a very gifted writer.
