Inga manages to escape from a house of terror where she was held as a sex slave along with other girls who were kidnapped. She is chased into the woods and runs onto the road, almost falling under the wheels of an approaching car. She thought, it would be better to die that way than to return to her captors. The driver of the car, to her surprise, saves her. He brings her to his house and introduces her to his family: his mother, his father, and his younger sister.

The Voice of Waterfalls hits just about every cliche you'd expect. That isn't to say it's not an enjoyable way to spend a weekend. However I felt little connection to the plastic lifeless characters, each of which you've seen dozens of times before. it's a bit like a Lifetime movie, in that you know what will happen and why but you watch it anyway. It's apparently part one if a series and it succeeded at making me want to read the next part. So, umm yay? Apocalypse All the Time is post-post-apocalypticism. The apocalypse happens on a weekly (if not daily) basis and Marshall is sick of it. Life is constantly in peril, constantly disrupted, but nothing significant every really happens as a result. It's always handled. Marshall wants out; he wants it all to end. In short, the book explores what about the end times holds such fascination for humanity and what impact such a fascination has on the way we live our lives.

Apocalypse All the Time is missing something. Lack of character development forced me to remember the characters are not real people. They have no backstory, no real motivation. Thus I did not find them endearing and did not care what happened to them. Another problem is the author LITERALLY and deliberately breaks the flow of the story more than once. Although these segments are humorous they only serve to widen the disconnect between me and the story. However, Gary Tiedemann's narration was excellent and does its best to imbue life into the story I was voluntarily provided this free review copy audiobook by the author, narrator, or publisher.

I came away from Cold Kill feeloig an odd mix of pity and revulsion. Between Olsen's words, and Pierce's as always EXCELLENT narration the humanity of each end every person involved in the story is undeniable! Yet, I never forgot that two real people lost their lives. I was entertained and would recommend Cold Kill to new and veteran readers alike. I was voluntarily provided this free review copy audiobook by the author, narrator, or publisher.

A Devil in the Daylight is not a bad book. It's a bit too twilightesque in the sense that it's "supernatural entity enrolls in girl's school, protects girl" etc... but I guess that's what teens like? That being said, I am looking forward to the third book for closure on the story. I do recommend you read the first book prior to reading this to better understand the characters. McEvoy does a wonderful job as always, however, if you want to experience Damanda's best work, stick to /r/nosleep and/or The NoSleep Podcast! One morning in July 1974, Anita Andrews, the owner and bartender at Fagiani's Cocktail Lounge in Napa, California was found dead in her bar - raped, beaten, and stabbed to death in a bloody frenzy. She'd last been seen alive the night before talking to a drifter who sat at the end of the bar, playing cards and flirting with her. But the stranger, along with Anita's Cadillac, had disappeared. Unable to locate a suspect, police investigators sadly watched the case grow cold over the years.

Smooth Talker chronicles the crimes of, hunt for, and subsequent capture of murderer and rapist Roy Melanson. Steve Jackson successfully conveys the senseless nature of crime as a whole, as well as how the lives of each victim's family and friends are irrevocably changed forever. Kevin Pierce is my favorite true crime narrator and doesn't disappoint here, his smooth warm cadence is as pleasant as ever. If you enjoy true crime you know what to expect, and if you are new to the genre Smooth Talker is as good a place to start as any. While Wisconsin is now perhaps best known for its die-hard love of both the Green Bay Packers and its cheese, deep beneath the surface of Wisconsin history simmers a cesspool of nightmares that began before the term serial killer had been coined. The horror started when Ed Gein tried desperately to bring back his dead mother by first exhuming bodies, then by killing in order to harvest female body parts that he himself would wear.
