In the last five years, eight states have legalized recreational marijuana. To many, continued progress seems certain. But pot was on a similar trajectory 40 years ago, only to encounter a fierce backlash. In Grass Roots, historian Emily Dufton tells the remarkable story of marijuana's crooked path from acceptance to demonization and back again and of the thousands of grassroots activists who made changing marijuana laws their life's work.

Most of the history was down well. Too often she was bogged down on politics, way too much beat down on Nancy Reagan, for example.

A serial killer is loose on the streets of Manhattan. His victims appear to be total strangers. The only clue that unites the crimes is the playing card left behind at each scene that hints at the next target. The killer, known in the tabloids as The Dealer, is baiting cops into a deadly and scandalous guessing game that has the city increasingly on edge.

No character development; I couldn't have cared if the main characters were bombed at the end. I can't believe I listened to the entire book. Some parts of the book we good, but the overall story was terrible.

I would not recommend that no one waste their time or money on this one. I'll stick with Cross and the Private series.

the reading was done well, the story, from a military perspective was not well researched. The military uses M-4s or M-16s, not AR-15s. the military uses magazines never, ever clips. the Navy does not Land F-15s on aircraft carriers. they can't the F-15 is an Air Force aircraft.

too much PC crap about global warming. I dont recommend, I don't want to read book one, and will not be looking for any other books from this author

Maxine Tarnow is running a nice little fraud investigation business on the Upper West Side, chasing down different kinds of small-scale con artists. She used to be legally certified but her license got pulled a while back, which has actually turned out to be a blessing because now she can follow her own code of ethics - carry a Beretta, do business with sleazebags, hack into people's bank accounts - without having too much guilt about any of it. Otherwise, just your average working mom - two boys in elementary school, an off-and-on situation with her sort of semi-ex-husband Horst - till Maxine starts looking into the finances of a computer-security firm....

What would have made Bleeding Edge better?

I couldn't finish the book. The narration was so bad, I would have preferred a robot reader

What could Thomas Pynchon have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?

Different narrator

How could the performance have been better?

Yes, a five year old learning English as a second language would have done a better job narrating

What character would you cut from Bleeding Edge?

Don't know, I couldn't stand the narration long enough to listen

Any additional comments?

Refund me my credit, this was the worst narration I've ever heard
