What happens when The Firm meets Anita Blake? You get the Halls of Power - our modern world, but twisted. Law, finance, the military, and politics are under the sway of long-lived vampires, werewolves, and the elven Alfar. Humans make the best of rule by “the Spooks”, and contend among themselves to affiliate with the powers-that-be, in order to avoid becoming their prey. Very loyal humans are rewarded with power over other women and men. Very lucky humans are selected to join the vampires.

Very interesting start to a new series. I'm glad I took a chance with this one series. Therese Plummer is a very good narrator. Her voices for both male and female characters are good. The flow of the story runs smoothly. I hope Linnet will find her friend, John back. Lots of action with magic, supernatural,,werewolves,,vampires and a bit of romance. Excellent.

Naomi and Alaric are both strong characters. Again Naomi is in danger by a clique of witches who would use her as a sacrifice. Together wi members of the Alliance they fight and protect Naomi from the enemies. Very interesting plot and there are action, traitors and some romance as well. I hope there will be more books to come. L D Hall writes very well and the story flows smoothly. Narrator, Price Waldman did very well wig the different voice and nuances.

Rescuing a god? Check. Escaping to the underworld? Also check. But despite her successes, things aren't going so well for Lexi and her friends - which is why they're hiding out in the underworld. The god they rescued has been magically collared, unable to access his power. Worse still, Lexi's best friend is similarly shackled, blocking her shape-shifting abilities. Since they have precisely zero collar-opening keys, they need to make one - except the only person who can help them, the god of metalshaping, is dead.

The suspense and tensions really grips throughout the story. Marina Finlayson is a talented writer. Hollie Jackson, of course brings the characters to life,p. Gods being magically collared to prevent them from using their powers and killing them by the shape changers. Lexi is a very strong protagonist and with Jake at her side going underworld to help their friends is awesome. But as usual they are faced with enemies thwarting them. Jake is forced to make a bind with a wicked nymph and this part ends in a cliffhanger. I hope book 4 will come out ASAP.

After having her body inhabited by an arrogant womanizer from another dimension, Hailey Parrish had to adjust to the supernatural powers he left behind. If occasional temper-induced destructiveness and the ability to change into a hawk weren’t problematic enough, she saved the parallel dimension of Coursodon from a megalomaniac from an unknown third dimension by transforming into an over-sized, flame-spewing, winged beast. Was her transformation into Birdzilla a one-time fluke, or will her hometown have its own version of the Loch Ness Monster?
