As cyber attacks dominate front-page news, as hackers join the list of global threats, and as top generals warn of a coming cyber war, few books are more timely and enlightening than Dark Territory: The Secret History of Cyber War by Slate columnist and Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist Fred Kaplan.

I believe that cyber warfare or terrorism Is the greatest threat of our age, a much more likely threat than conventional warfare, and way more likely than nuclear war. This book outlines many of the main characters who've shaped the landscape of that arena on the governmental side and is a worthy read (listen).

The narrator, Malcolm Hillgartner, is one of the best in the business, not because he can do a variety of voices (not his strength), but because his voice has weight and authority - you just enjoy hearing him tell this kind of a story. I recommend this book and this narrator

Why we think it’s a great listen: Seabiscuit was a runaway success, and Hillenbrand’s done it again with another true-life account about beating unbelievable odds. On a May afternoon in 1943, an Army Air Forces bomber crashed into the Pacific Ocean and disappeared, leaving only a spray of debris and a slick of oil, gasoline, and blood. Then, on the ocean surface, a face appeared....

One of the best I've heard

In every detail Unbroken was one of the best Audio books I've listened to. The story itself is something that quickly takes hold of you and you end up driving or walking around much longer than intended unable to turn off your iPod, wanting to hear what happens next. Laura Hillenbrand is an incredible writer, one of the best. Furthermore, Edward Herrmann reads with such perfect and appropriate cadence and emotion at each point, I can't immagine a better reader for this book. A five star rating is not hyberbole - this book is the real deal, it earns every star.

Why we think it’s a great listen: How do you one-up a book that’s already a global literary phenomenon? Hire Simon Vance to (flawlessly) interpret the loves, lives, and murders of Sweden’s cold and secret-filled world. A spellbinding amalgam of murder mystery, family saga, love story, and financial intrigue. It's about the disappearance 40 years ago of Harriet Vanger, a young scion of one of the wealthiest families in Sweden.

Obviously talented writer wasted his talent on S&M

Larsson is clearly a talented writer, and, I believe, could have made this story fascinating without the religio/sexual brutalities he chose as a major part of his focus. The more I read the less I want to fill my mind with that kind of crap, even if skill fully presented. I bought into the hype and bought the book - I was disappointed in the end.

In Practical Mysticism, Evelyn Underhill distills the essential (and comprehensible) steps that comprise the process of achieving mystical understanding. Though she uses the pantheon of Christian mystics as her guide, her methodology transcends any particular faith and offers a common sense approach to self-improvement and enhanced awareness.

Couldn't get by the narrator's voice. Listen to the sample a few times before you buy. The book content is great, of course, but when listening vs reading the narrator matters.

If you want to know about the man - C.S. Lewis - this is the book you want. His reluctant journey to faith is fascinating. The narrator, Geoffrey Howard, is perhaps the best I've ever heard. If the institutional church makes your skin crawl, but the idea of knowing God is more palatable, then you'll find a friend in Lewis.
