Okay, right off the bat lets get this pokemon likeness squashed. I will admit that I haven't seen much pokemon, but to equate this story with pokemon, you might as well say every story with magic is like Harry Potter. There are similarities, but not enough unless you're just fixated on pokemon for some reason.
As for the story, it was entertaining, the only caveat was the narrators different voices for the characters were so alike that I found myself getting confused from time to time.
Overall, I'm probably going to end up listening to the entire series unless the story line goes to pot.

I was really excited about this book, but for some reason, I had to listen to a relationship between two guys that went way overboard, it was more in depth than the main characters romance, as if she was trying to appease a certain criteria before finally getting on with the story. In any case, after that nonsense was done the other half of the book was good.

It was by accident that I found this series, but it seems that is the most common way for me these days.
I was entertained and was looking forward to the next book as I finished my current. While not in my absolute favorites, the series is absolutely worth the credit to listen and enjoy.
Seems there is a new series that continues the journey, already made and ready for consumption, no waiting, of which I hope does not disappoint.
Enjoy!
