The “Prey” novels by Pulitzer prize-winning journalist John Sandford consistently make the best-seller lists, but they are not for the faint of heart. Featuring Minneapolis Lieutenant Lucas Davenport, these thrillers are raw, graphic, and impossible to put down. In Eyes of Prey, a depressed and unfocused Davenport takes on a macabre case, tracking down a serial killer who maims the eyes of his victims after he has murdered them.

A Personal code of ethics is usually compromised by
The law, not so when weighed in the conscience of
Lucas Davenport.
I’m still amazed how easily I accepted the rawness, the physical brutality as part of this man’s complex nature and actually understood the mirky boundaries that governed such a darkly brilliant, impressive detective. Sensual, evocative and a throughly satisfying read that stirred something and left me craving for more .

When a mutilated body is found hanging in a seedy motel in Philadelphia, forensics specialist Liam Dwyer assumes the crime scene will be business as usual. Instead, the victim turns out to be a woman he’d had an affair with before breaking it off to save his marriage. But there’s a bigger problem: Liam has no memory of where he was or what he did on the night of the murder. Panicked, Liam turns to his brother, Sean, a homicide detective. Sean has his back, but incriminating evidence keeps piling up. From fingerprints to DNA, everything points to Liam....

Everyone has secrets, and Rachel Holloway is no exception. She’s worked hard to keep the past where it belongs: dead and buried. And so far, she’s been very successful. But now the small newspaper where she works wants to produce a podcast on a cold case: the disappearance 12 years ago of young Molly Forster. Some secrets should never see the light of day, and, as far as Rachel is concerned, whatever happened to little Molly is one of them.

Well, I finished it after two bags of caramel M&M’s 0ne large bag of Sour Patch Kids while writing letters and doing bills.
I never had to rewind the story, any surprising reveals or twists were whispered down the cast of characters as though we might not get it. An unlikely plot, compared to what, my life ? But that’s what makes mysteries. To be fair , perhaps I shouldn’t review a this type of mystery but I’m a sucker for English dialogue and botanic superlatives. Their humorous, low key attitude when tripping over body parts or realizing Mr. husband is Jack The Ripper while alone on a sailboat.
Molly/Rachel dedicated to perpetuating her false identity to protect herself, her family from the man who murdered her entire family. Molly then, had escaped knowing his identity as the son of the big cheese in town.
Sixteen years on the lam, acquiring dead people’s ID’s Molly oops Rachel, finally has a family, one nervous breakdown and a boring job.
A radical change at work threatens to destroy Disney World and the pace picks up . Stubbornness being the heroins virtue and the heart of a mother lioness
Creatively saves the day and the baddies get their just deserts .
I finished it and not one for self torture, I found it entertaining enough just not unique to recommend..

Am I fickle, I had given my heart to Lucas Davenport and his family of detectives from book one. He was tough.tender and cool as hell.
When a few years later,it became
obvious this slightly off center, young protege who liked women, found spiritual strength in the great outdoors
but its the humor he appreciates in human frailties and in his own that made room for Virgil to join Lucas.
I love the small towns, the characters who's conversations and convoluted crooked criminal schemes are laugh out loud hysterically believable because of Sanford's talent for dialogue.
Each book is an early Christmas gift I fly through in hours. What a treat to close a book, still chuckling.

if you're reading mystery thrillers for fun, its always a treat to read exceptional dialogue, a plot never before hatched.
Nancy Drew grows up is enough intrigue, minimal gore and no nightmares.
perfect for many who like
meat loaf and mashed potatoes.
Then they're a few who prefer Oxtail stew. Who love
characters so evil, those sociopaths who plan meticulously the annihilation of whole towns under the guise of the friendly Sheriff or his wife.
so I'd skip eenie meenie miney mo and go with the writer who rarely let's you down
Sure try a newly acclaimed best seller but know your neighbor well before you rush off to the library to invest hours , wondering how in the hell he had liked this.

For Mercy Kilpatrick, returning to rural Oregon has meant coming to terms with her roots. Raised as a prepper, Mercy is now relying on her survivalist instincts to defend her town from the people the law can’t reach. But this time, an investigation calling up a dark past for her and police chief Truman Daly may be hitting too close to home. A rainstorm has uncovered the remains of five people - a reprise of the distinctive slaughter of two families twenty years ago. Except the convicted killer is in prison.
