It's the most dangerous case of Will Trent's career. He knows this from the moment he sets foot in the abandoned Atlanta warehouse where a body lies on the floor - the body of an ex-cop. Bloody footprints leading away from the scene reveal that another victim, evidently a woman, was carried away and has vanished into thin air. And, worst of all, the warehouse belongs to the city's biggest and most high-profile athlete - a local hero protected by the world's most expensive lawyers.

As much as I love this series, I really struggled with the beginning of Criminal. The flash backs were annoying until I realized the importance of that plot line. The narrator's pronunciation of Atlanta landmarks such as Ponce De Leon also drove me nuts. As an Atlanta native, it was painful to hear. The treatment of women and blacks in the flashbacks also angered me, although I realize Karin Slaughter was staying true to the time period. With all that said, any fan of the Will Trent series MUST listen to this installment as it answers soooooo many questions.

Typically I listen to a book as I'm falling asleep. I create a bookmark, set the timer, and I'm asleep before the time is up. Things were completely different this time. I'd set the timer and still be awake and listening when time was up! After resetting my timer 3 times (60 mins. each!) I finally gave up and finished it. There were so many questions that I wanted answers to. If you like mysteries and strong female leads, you'll LOVE Pieces of Her!!!

Jo Ellen Hathaway thought she had escaped the house long ago. It was where she spent her loneliest years, after her family was shattered by the sudden, unexplained disappearance of her mother.

But now, the sprawling resort off the coast of Georgia haunts her dreams. Even more haunting are the pictures that someone is sending her - strange close-ups, candid shots, and finally, the most shocking and heartbreaking portrait of all: a photograph of her long-lost mother. . . naked, beautiful, and dead.

I spent most of this novel yelling at the main character. You know how you watch a scary movie and there's that one dumb girl running in high heels and you just want to slap her for being too stupid to take the shoes off? Yeah, I had THAT feeling for most of the novel. It was one unbelievable stupid decision after another. Yes, the ending was good, but I feel like I deserved that, at least. Skip this one!
