He paints a picture so completely it’s mesmerizing. In the audible version I often had to go back a minute or two to just appreciate his use of words. Feel the chill, smell the pastures, know exactly what the sky looks like. The narrator Tom Stechulte is the perfect perfect person to read this book. I’d listen to him read a book about scrubbing pots and pans.

Like a warm blanket on a chilly night.

I love Ivan Doig. Making my way through every one of them, some twice. Decided to try the audible.com version. Tom Stechschulte was made for Doig books, or lullabies or road maps. That deep voice and his changes of character are so good. I’ll be going back to my favorite Doig books to hear Tom read them. My only criticism is the book was too short.
