I’m so glad to discover KL Slater’s books. I started with Blink in October, Liar, and then Mistake. So far have enjoyed all three books. The Mistake is a good thriller and kept me super interested on long morning runs.

Anna Fox lives alone - a recluse in her New York City home, unable to venture outside. She spends her day drinking wine (maybe too much), watching old movies, recalling happier times...and spying on her neighbors. Then the Russells move into the house across the way: a father, mother, their teenaged son. The perfect family. But when Anna, gazing out her window one night, sees something she shouldn't, her world begins to crumble. And its shocking secrets are laid bare.

I usually only review books I love or in this case hate. I feel compelled to save people from wasting a credit and 13 plus hours.

When I read this book is compared to Gone Girl, I immediately purchased. Yeah, this book never gets going. I was literally 12 hours in hoping something would save it. Nope, save your credit and get something else. Should never be mentioned with Gone Girl or Girl on a Train.

In this deeply scary and intensely unnerving debut novel, Jake and a woman known only as "The Girlfriend" are on a drive to visit his parents at their secluded farm. But when Jake leaves "The Girlfriend" stranded at an abandoned high school, what follows is a twisted unraveling of the darkest unease, an exploration into psychological frailty, and an ending as suspenseful as The Usual Suspects and as haunting as Misery.
